The boy continues to beat up the MPs until they stagger back and run away. I whimper as he turns to me with a fierce look on his face, but the look softens when his cold eyes make contact with my fearful ones. He tries to take a step towards me, only for me to try to back away even further.

"Tch. I'm not going to hurt you." He steps towards me, bending down to my level. "Say, you don't look like you're from around here." My eyes widen in slight shock, I shouldn't tell him. I nervously grab my necklace, which has my family crest implanted onto it, and tuck it into my dress.

"I-I am..." He shrugs and holds out his hand for me, after wiping the mud from it onto a handkerchief from his pocket. I shakily grab it and he pulls me up. "I'm Levi. You should consider yourself lucky... I don't normally do this for people."

"I...I'm Y/N, and thank you for helping me." He shakes his head, pulling me out of the alleyway. "Follow me. I'm sure Kenny'll let you stay with us." He takes me to this inn, and walks in. "Wait.. children aren't allowed in here." I object, and he shushes me. "Oi, Kenny." He yells as he drags me in.

"Runt," a man with a funky hat says, nodding at him. "Who's the girl?" Levi let's go of my hand and crosses his arms. "This is Y/N. She's staying with us from now on." The man smirks, standing up and towering over us. I shuffle behind Levi, clutching his wrist in fear. "Oh really? Says who?"

"Says me. You'll train her like you train me as well." I see a proud look in the man's cold eyes. "Alright then, Levi. Keep that feisty attitude of yours and you'll survive down here. And your little friend too. Where 'ya from, darlin'?" I furrow my eyebrows. "Eh... around here." He nods, adjusting his collar.

"Alright then. You'll share Levi's room. We start training tomorrow." He walks out the building, and Levi turns to me. "He's not that bad of a guy, he looks intimidating but he is strong and he'll help you survive down here." I tilt my head slightly. "How do you know him?" He tries to hide his wince, but I notice it. He's been through a lot.

"He was... a friend of my mother's." I frown sadly. "Is she... gone?" He nods slightly. I smile and grab his hands. "Mine is too, we'll get through this together." His eyes widen slightly and his lips part. "Alright then." I could tell that underneath his cold demeanour there was an afraid and fragile boy. He was unsteady, and he needed someone to hold onto. He needs support. He needs... dare I say, me. And he would have me for a long, long time.

1 month later

I fall backwards and onto my bum as Levi knocks me over. "You have to keep your balance, Brat." Kenny informs me, grabbing my upper arm and lifting me up. He shows me a fighting position and I try to mimic it. "Eh.. close. Be sure to shield your chin, that's one of your weak spots." I nod, raising my arm to cover it.

"Now, have a go." Levi runs at me again, throwing a few punches. I manage to dodge a few of them but he manages to knock me off my feet. "This will take a while, but to say you've only been training for a month, you're doing quite good, darlin'. We'll focus on defence first and then attack." I nod and Levi helps me up.

"That's it for today, then." He grins, taking out a bottle of whiskey and taking a swig, walking off. "Tch." Levi groans, walking in the opposite direction. I follow after him confused, as this was not the way to the inn. "Levi, where are you going?"

He turns around to look at me. "Go home. It's not safe for you." I cross my arms to show my stubbornness. "Where you go I go." I notice a pink hue form under his cheeks. "Whatever... just don't get in my way." I smile and happily follow him, clutching my necklace tightly.
