A/N - i felt like updating, but disclaimer - I don't have access to the anime as of right now so i have my manga volumes in front of me and i'm using the text from there

also, there will be a minor scene where Y/N gets hurt, but this is essential! I am not turning her into a damsel i just need this scene to help the plot move forward. trust me when i say i have this all planned out and this is a significant part of the story.

I also want to say that, Isabella is in fact Ackerbonded to her mother. I do not fully see the Ackerbond in a romantic form, though it can lead to romantic feelings. Isabella only had her mother for a long period of time, and so she Ackerbonded to her.

Y/N

Y/N's heart hammered through her chest as she made her way back to the small base owned by the Garrison. She didn't care to take down the Colossal, she didn't care for any of that. Her baby girl was there, her baby girl was in danger, and she needed to get her out of there so she could be safe.

As strong as Isabella was proving herself to be, she was only five years old. She was still so small, so fragile. Y/N couldn't just leave her in the base and trust her to be safe, titans were unpredictable. Nobody would be able to decipher their next move. She wasn't about to leave her daughter in a place that wasn't guaranteed safe, a place where she couldn't protect herself.

She promised her one day she'd never leave her, but she was going to have to for a short while.

She released the energy of her ODM gear and landed in the centre of the building, where Garrison soldiers were rushing around to get everything prepared. Y/N's heart burned in her chest as her eyes landed on her daughter stood by the statue, looking around aimlessly with tears in her eyes, her small hands clutched around a plushy Christa had made her for her birthday.

She ran towards her, dropping to her knees and clutching her daughter's shoulders. "Mama, what happening? Why everyone scared?" Y/N felt her own tears prickling her eyes as she pulled her daughter close to her, as if she could protect her from the entire world by doing just that. It's what she craved to do.

"Izzy, I need you to listen to me. You're going to be a good girl, and you're going to be brave, you got that?" Her voice felt heavy as the lump in her throat grew. She felt as if she was going to burst into tears at any given second, but she had to continue on.

"Mama, what d'you mean?" At her own mother's tears, Isabella began to cry as well, even though she didn't know a single thing about what was going on.

"Mama has to go away for a while. You're going to go with the others through the gate and stay there, where it's safe, until mama comes back to you." She didn't want to leave her, God she never wanted to abandon her daughter. She had lost to the titans once, who's to say she wouldn't again? But she couldn't give up now, she had people to protect, people to return to.

"But what if mama doesn't come back?" She raised her hand to shakily stroke it through her daughter's long, raven hair, straightening her little blue bow behind her head, just like she did every morning.

"Mama will come back. Mama will be here before the sun sets, I promise, you're going to be okay. You just need to go away for a while."

"NO! I don't want to leave you mama!" Isabella leaped into her arms, wrapping her arms around Y/N's neck tightly. Tears began to slowly make their way down her cheeks as she returned the hug, trembles wracking her body. But she couldn't be selfish, humanity was on the line.

"Hey, hey, you don't have to leave me. I'm always going to be here. It's just going to be exactly like one of those games we used to play, alright? Izzy is going to go hide somewhere for a while-" She stood up, twirling her daughter in the air, causing her to giggle, "whilst mama fights all the evil monsters so she can save her princess!"
