Chapter 9

As expected, we did the training and pretty much mastered it. They were surprised at how strong we were, and slightly threatened? I was talking to a girl from Hanji's squad, her name is Nifa I think.

"So, what's your relationship with that Levi guy?" I flinch, putting my cup down. "Eh.. we're boyfriend and girlfriend." She tilts her head, confused. "Really? We all thought you hated each other." I chuckle nervously. I couldn't let anyone know what I know. As much as I hate to admit it I still care about them, and I still love him.

"We've just had a mild argument. Used to happen a lot, but we always make up." She nods with a smile. "Yeah, I argue with my boyfriend a lot." I grin, taking a sip of my tea. "He really is amazing."

2 days later

Levi and the others are stood nearby as Hanji and I are goofing around. Like Isabel and I used to. "Oh my gosh, we should cut some of his hair off and stick it under his nose!" She laughs and I nod, crouching down because of my laughter. I squeezed my legs shut in fear of pissing myself, which caused us to laugh even harder.

I turn my head towards them with a small smile. I've moved on, it's time they did too. Move on from their thug life, move on from their schemes, and move on from me. I nod slightly before turning back to Hanji with a silly grin on my face.

She suddenly picks me up and dangles me over her shoulders, causing me to squeal. "Ah! Put me down, put me down!" She begins to run so I scream and let out a string of laughter. "We need to get you a horse!"

She runs towards the stables and finally puts me down. "The unowned horses are on the left." I walk down the aisle, trying to find a horse that sticks out to me. I stop in front of a pure white one. "What about her?" She puts her arm around me. "She's never let anyone tame her. We were thinking about handing her over to Albert L/N's farm."

"Let me have a go." She nods and I walk into the stall, slightly raising my hand. I quickly retrieve it as she goes to bite me, but I try again. I stroke her mane, and she nuzzles her head into my hand. "Wow! She likes you!" Hanji let's out a hearty laugh.

"You're a miracle worker, Smith!" I place my forehead against hers, still stroking her mane. "Does she have a name?" Hanji responds to my question with a no. So I think for a moment. "H/N. I like that." Hanji cackles whilst I pick up a saddle and some reins, and equip her.

The day of the expedition

"Be careful, alright? Come straight to me if you feel threatened. You're positioned near Flagon's squad anyway, and I'll only be a few metres away." I nod with a happy grin. I climb onto H/N and sit beside Hanji as we wait to be released from the walls.

I turn my head to see Flagon's squad with Levi, Isabel and Farlan. I frown and mouth, 'Don't die.' to three of them, to which they nod. "All troops, advance!" I grip H/N's reins as we all start to ride out of the walls. "Watch me, father." I whisper and grin as H/N goes under the gate.

I look up at the sky in awe. No sign of human life anywhere, no smell of dirt and blood or sewage, no feeling of being trapped. Just freedom, sweet sweet freedom. "Wow..." I mutter, my e/c eyes glistening. "Beautiful isn't it?" Hanji asks me and I nod happily.

Behind me, I can already hear Levi and the others get into a quarrel with someone. I didn't care to remember their names. I turn around and yell at them. "Shut your mouthes! Titans could show up at any time. Now is not the time for petty arguments!" Hanji cackles at me.
