[UNEDITED]

"Hey, y/n, please call me back if you see this." I said, pacing back and forth.

"Ruel, dude, sit down. Just take a deep breath, I'm sure she's fine."
"How do we know that?"

"She's with Daniel. She's fine."
"I don't trust him." I said.

"Why not? Y/n seems to like him a lot."
"Yeah, but still."
"She's fine. You've been calling and texting her for the past three hours."

"Cause she hasn't responded. I'm worried."
"I know you're worried but I thought you invited me so we can actually hang out. I haven't seen you in months and now that we're actually hanging out you're worrying over someone."
"Listen, I'm sorry. She just never responded and I care so much about her."
"I get it. You know, sometimes I forget that you guys aren't dating or anything."

"W-what?"
"What?" he asked confused.
"Did you think we were dating?"
"No, I'm just saying that sometimes it seems like you guys are. Speaking of which, why aren't you guys together? I thought you told me you liked her?"

"I do, but she still sticks by that stupid friend code contract we made when we were seven." I rolled my eyes.
"Contract? What?"

"I never told you?"
He shook his head.

"Well basically when we were younger, we came up with this stupid page of rules. One of them is to 'not date each other and always be bestest of friends'." I quoted.

"And she still remembers that?"
"Yep. It's been hanging in her room since we wrote it."
"Aw, sorry, Ruel."
I shrugged.

My phone beeped.

"Wait, Ruel-" Anthony grabbed my phone from my hand.
"Just tell her." he said.

"It's not that simple." I said, trying to grab my phone.

"Yes it is. I'll do it for you." he smiled, starting to type something.
"What? No, give it back!" I said, trying to grab it from him.
Anthony quickly ran away from me and out into my backyard.

At this point I knew he would've already sent it so I just stood up and sighed.

"And...sent!" he smiled, throwing me my phone.
"Why?"
"It was going to happen sooner or later. I just made it sooner."

I rolled my eyes and looked at the texts.

Hey Ruel. Sorry I didn't respond. Can I come over to your house?
Sure
Also hi y/n it's Anthony.
Ruel has been nervously walking around for the past hour
Also he likes you a lot and you should get rid of that stupid friend code thing
Oh hey Anthony
Did he tell you that?
No I read his mind
OF COURSE HE TOLD ME
Oh
I'm gonna be there in five minutes

"Anthony, why?" I groaned, throwing my phone on the couch.

"You're welcome." he said, grabbing a handful of popcorn.
"Well are you going?"

"No, I want to see y/n too."
I took a deep breath.

As if on cue, we heard a knock on the door.

"I'm gonna put on a movie." he said, grabbing the remote.
I sighed before going to the door and opening it, revealing a drenched y/n.

"Hi, Ruel." she said.
"Y/n, what happened?"

"Well, Daniel left me halfway into the party and there wasn't any service where the party was so I had to walk a mile to get any service and it was raining."
"Aw, baby, come in. I'll go get you a towel and some clothes to change into."

"Wait, Ruel, can we talk?"
"Yes, but after you're dried. I don't want to get you sick."
She nodded.

"Hi, Anthony."
"Y/n! It's so great to see you! Why are you wet?"
I left them alone to go get a towel and clothes.

When I came back, y/n was still standing and they were talking.

"Here's a towel and some clothes." I said, handing her the stuff.
"Thank you." she smiled, giving me a kiss on the cheek.

I felt my cheeks heat up as she walked upstairs.

Once the door closed, Anthony said, "See! Y'all are so cute I can't."
"Stop, shhh! She might hear you!"

"Okay, okay." He laughed, playing the movie.

I sat down on the couch next to the one he was sitting on and scrolled through my phone.

Fifteen minutes later, y/n walked down the stairs and sat down next to me.

"Thank you." she smiled slightly.
"Of course."

"Um, Ruel, can we go out and talk real quick?" she whispered.
I nodded, standing up.
She walked in front of me and when I looked back at Anthony, he winked at me, causing me to roll my eyes at him.

"Okay, um, did everything Anthony say true?"
"Y-yeah. Look I'm sorry that I'm breaking the code but-"
"Ruel, I don't care about the code. The only reason I still have it in my room is because it marked when we first started becoming close friends. I thought you didn't like me and so when Daniel asked me out, I thought it would be good for me to get over you. Clearly it didn't work." she said nervously.

"Really?"
She nodded.

"I like you a lot, y/n." I smiled.
"I like you too, you goof."
"So what now?"

"Can we take things slow? Like I know we've been friends forever but I don't want to mess anything up."
"Of course." I smiled, intertwining our hands.
