"Oh my god... My curls..." Blaine murmured.
He'd gone to the locker room to grab his jacket. It wasn't long before he saw his gel was completely messed up. Contrary to his beliefs, girls loved his curls. If you ever saw them, you'd understand.
As he tamed them, he though about what Puck had said.
"Dude, just tell him you like him. It's so obvious. You never hurt him, you don't even talk about him behind his back."
Blaine stared into the mirror. He took a deep breath. "I love you... Kurt... I have ever since-"
"What are you doing?"
Blaine must've jumped six feet high, knocking over his hair gel. He fumbled with with it as he picked it up. "N-nothing! What are you doing, Finn? Praying to grilled cheesus?"
"Not Finn..." Kurt said.
Blaine assumed it was Finn since he excused himself from practice almost every day to call Rachel and tell her he hadn't broken anything. Now Blaine was twice as embarrassed.
"You didn't hear that... Did you?"
Kurt hesitated for a moment. He knew what Blaine had said, but he also knew that Blaine would be mortified if he knew Kurt knew. He quickly shook his head no.
"Good. Don't tell anyone you saw me here." With that, he left the room.
Kurt stared into the mirror for a second and then grabbed his hair spray, which he'd left in his P.E. locker the day before.
***********
Kurt had explained his situation to his friends who knew Blaine when they hung out with Kurt as kids. They were walking home from school when it sunk in.
"NO. FREAKING. WAY." Mercedes squealed.
"I'm pretty sure that's what he said..." Kurt whispered.
"Oh my god!" Rachel beamed.
"Stop, stop! He takes the same route home as I do! He might be listening..."
"Man, when are you gonna grab that?" Santana smirked. "I totally would've."
"He's not ready. He'll come to me if he ever wants this to work." Kurt explained. "I'm not just gonna force him to come out. Maybe he's just experimenting. Or who knows? Maybe it was a joke to see if I would hear and get the wrong idea..."
************
"Kurt!" Rachel squealed. "Party at my place! Be there!"
She threw him an invitation and dashed off. Kurt put the invite in his backpack and walked to first period. On his way there, he saw Blaine in the phone with someone.
"I'm not gay, dad! Come on. You-"
Blaine's dad had hung up on him, leading him to slamming his fist into the lockers in frustration. He knew his father would be livid at any sign that his son wasn't straight.
Kurt took out a piece of paper and scribbled down his number and his name on it. He proceeded to shove it into Blaine's locker which he remembered after visiting it almost every day when they were friends.
When they'd both gotten to class, the teacher was picking partners for a math assignment.
"Puck and Artie, Azimio and Karovsky, Rachel and Brittany, Kurt and Blaine-"
"I can't work with him!" Blaine called out.
"Partners are chosen at random, Anderson. Deal with it."
"No you don't understand! I literally can't work with him!" He ran up to the teachers desk and whispered. "Do you know how much this could ruin my reputation? And my life? Please, Mrs. Smith!"
"Sit down, Mr. Anderson!" She replied.
Blaine slowly walked to his seat. Everyone had already begun shifting their desks while Kurt's stood rigid.
After a few minutes, Kurt inched his way closer to the gelled boy. Blaine tried his best to act disgusted while Karovsky and Azimio were watching. You could tell this sort of offended Kurt, but he'd told Blaine he understood.
"I'm really sorry I act like this..." Blaine whispered. "I have no problem with you being... you..."
Kurt somewhat figured Blaine wasn't a homophobe since they started hanging out alone, but hearing him say it was a whole different story.
"Really?"
"Yeah... But my dad kind of kept me away from you..."
"What's making you come back?"
"Because fuck my dad, that's why!"
Kurt flinched at his change in tone to which Blaine sighed. "Sorry..."
"It's fine... Guess you don't like your dad so much...?"
Kurt didn't have to look at him to find his answer.
