Kurt woke up a little earlier than Blaine did, allowing him to enjoy the moment for a bit longer before his alarm went off. Blaine was behind him, looking peaceful and yet stressed at the same time. The combination wasn't something Kurt wanted for his boyfriend, of course, so he woke him up with a kiss.
"Hey..." Blaine whispered. "Wait, did the alarm go off? Are we late again?"
"No, Blaine." Kurt smiled. "You looked like you were having a bad dream or something."
"Oh... I wasn't..."
He was.
"Oh... Okay."
They stared at each other for a little while until Kurt's alarm actually did go off. He got up followed by his boyfriend. When they set off for school, Blaine stayed quiet. He wanted to talk or explain his dream, but it wasn't like him. He was always one for hiding.
"I love you." Kurt said, picking up Blaine's hand.
The gelled boy gave a half hearted smile in return. Kurt was picking up on the change in emotion with Blaine. He didn't know what could've happened in the dream, but if it was anything like his own, he'd understand.
Sometimes Kurt grew frustrated with Blaine. It wasn't for the reasons you'd expect, but because he was so closed off. He never explained his emotions except when he literally can't hold them back.
Kurt wished he could help out his boyfriend just as anybody would, only this feeling ate him up rather than took a part of his brain for a few minutes every day.
"Babe?" Blaine suddenly asked.
"Yes...?" Kurt said.
His tone was a bit lower than usual, confirming Blaine's suspicions.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing..." Kurt lied.
It was no use. Blaine was t going to open up to him, and he was starting to wonder if it was his own fault. Had he done something to deserve this? He found himself replaying recent events, trying to find something for Blaine to hold a grudge over.
Blaine knew better than what Kurt was letting on. By then, they'd gotten to school and we're almost at their first class.
"It kinda feel like your not telling me something..." Blaine said.
"Oh, your one to talk." Kurt muttered.
Surprisingly, Blaine had heard that comment and immediately snapped his head in the direction of his boyfriend.
"Hey... w-what's that supposed to mean?"
The one and only person (apart from his father) that could get him to stutter was Kurt Hummel. He cursed himself, knowing he sounded more vulnerable than usual.
They'd sat down beside each other at their desks, Kurt pulling out his work and Blaine pulling out his phone.
"Did I do something?"
"No! No, of course not! I l-" Blaine paused and then finished the sentence in a whisper. "I love you..."
"I love you too... I just wished you'd open up more around me."
"I want to..."
"So why can't you?"
"I don't open up to anyone, Kurt. It's not personal I'm just not used to it. I don't like the feeling of vulnerability."
Kurt sighed.
"Look.. I'll try my best to tell you more. I don't want you to be upset."
"I don't wanna force you into anything..." Kurt said.
"You won't... I'm gonna work on us. It's just hard for now because I'm not used to it."
Feeling the same vulnerability, Blaine stopped cold. Kurt could feel Blaine closing in himself again and put his hand over his boyfriend's. Silently reassuring him, Blaine smiles timidly.
