❛I've seen the tapestry❜

The next morning, Hope Lupin-Black sat in the library surrounded by books, trying to find anything she could on petrified creatures. She even skipped breakfast in an attempt to get an early start to the day. Her grey eyes lacked their usual brightness as she skimmed a book on Hippogriffs.

"There you are," said Cedric Diggory as he walked into the library. "I was looking for you everywhere at breakfast."

"I had to skip it," she told him with a wave of her hand. "I had to figure out more about what can petrify creatures. None of the books I've picked up have told me anything."

Cedric smiled at his friend while he crossed his arms against his chest. "Well, that's the thing. I have a theory."

His best friend dropped the book she was holding in surprise. Her eyes went wide as she looked more than interested in the theory he had thought of. "Ooh, tell me, tell me, tell me. What is it? Do you know?"

"Calm down, wouldn't you?"

"I can't, you actually had me feeling bad for Mrs. Norris last night," Hope groaned loudly with narrowed eyes. "And you know how much I hate Filch's cat."

"See?" he replied, nudging her in the side while he sat down next to her. "I'm starting to warm that cold little heart of yours."

Hope raised a brow in his direction, chuckling to herself as she expressed. "Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Now, what's that theory of yours?"

The Diggory boy's eyes went wide and he jumped up from his chair, racing over to the bookshelf and pulling out one singular book. He brought it back to the table and flipped through the pages until he found the one he wanted.

"So, as you know, petrification is a very complex thing," Cedric began, pushing the book over to his best friend. "Dark magic can obviously cause it but so can two magical creatures. A Basilisk or a Gorgon."

"Sure," she agreed, not looking convinced. "What would a Gorgon be doing in Hogwarts?"

"If you would let me finish, I was going to get to that."
