When the students returned from the holiday, the petrification of Muggle-born students continued to get worse. More and more of them were admitted to the Hospital Wing. And many of the students wondered if the school would get shut down.

One night, Hope Lupin-Black, Harry Potter, and Ron Weasley decided to wander the corridors late at night. Hope and Ron ignored one another, but they tried their best to get along for the sake of Harry. But the look that she gave him said that if he said one word, she'd beat him up.

They made their way to the second-floor girl's bathroom, which was flooded with water like usual. Ghostly cries from Moaning Myrtle could be heard. Harry managed to step in a puddle, soaking his slippers instantly.

"Uh," he let out a sigh. "Looks like Myrtle flooded the bathroom again."

"Gross," Hope said as she made a gagging noise. "Toliet water."

As the three Gryffindor students walked around to the next stall, the ghost of Moaning Myrtle appeared. She spun around defensively while she accused them. "Come to throw something at me?"

Harry furrowed his eyebrows in confusion, shaking his head as he asked. "Why would I throw something at you?"

"Do you want me to throw something at you?"

"Hope—"

"Don't ask me," Myrtle told them sorrowfully, before getting riled up again. "Here I am, minding my own business, and someone thinks it's funny to throw a book at me!"

Ron eyed the ghost curiously, thinking it was obvious but he said it anyway. "But, it can't hurt very much. I mean, it'd just go right through you, wouldn't it?"

"He makes a good point—"

Moaning Myrtle got visibly angry and slightly hurt by his assumption. "Oh, sure! Let's all throw books at Myrtle because she can't feel it! Ten points if it goes through her stomach, fifty points if it goes through her head!"
