Hope Lupin-Black led Hermione Granger by the hand down to the Great Hall, where Cedric Diggory was already waiting for them at the Gryffindor Table. She explained the entire way down how important this conversation with her was.

At the table, Cedric and Hope sat across from Hermione, and the two had their muggle pens scattered out across the table, with a stack of notepads in front of Cedric. Hermione watched with a smile, amused by how much they loved the muggle items.

"Why didn't you ever tell me about these?" Hope questioned, admiring her new red pen in the light. "Ced and I had to go around and get them like they were drugs."

"Don't worry," Hermione laughed in reply. "I'll get you some more over the summer."

"Summer won't be soon enough," Cedric insisted with a grin. "We need more of them now."

His best friend shrugged her shoulders casually as she added. "Perhaps we'll have to go around asking the Muggle-borns. Or find a way to get the ink cartridges to refill themselves."

The Granger girl only nodded along with a playful roll of her eyes before she asked with a raised brow. "So, what was so important that I had to come down here?"

"Well, J and I, we think we might've cracked the case," Cedric admitted sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck nervously. "At least, we think."

"You think?"

"It's hard to know for certain, so technically everything is a guess," Hope pointed out with her hands raised in the air. "But we think it might be a Basilisk."

"A Basilisk?"

They pulled out the many books from Cedric's bag that they had checked out from the library over the past few weeks. All of them on magical creatures. The number of books that they had seemed to even overwhelm Hermione.

Hope's smile stretched from ear to ear. "We've been doing a lot of research."

Cedric pulled out one of the books on the Basilisk specifically and found an illustration. "You see, it's a serpent of sorts, one of the most dangerous creatures. One of the only ones known to petrify as well."
