steven universe | after i am my monster

A/N : this takes place after the events of i am my monster and before the future.

3rd person pov

after steven stopped crying into his lion, he looked back at the people around him

"i'm sorry, guys" he said sadly

connie hugged him "you don't need to apologize"

cut to that night

steven was asleep in his bed, very exhausted from what had happened.

lion was at the foot of his bed, asleep

the diamonds were getting ready to leave outside. spinel took a look at the beach house.

"he'll be okay, right?" she asked, worried.

blue diamond picked her up in the palm of her hand.

"i think he'll be alright" the diamond reassured

the 3 diamonds and the spinel got into the diamond ship and went off.

connie was on the front porch of the beach house, thinking. pearl walked out of the house and sat next to her.

"do you want to stay over for the night, connie?" the pearl offered

connie nodded and walked inside the beach house

garnet was sitting on the couch and amethyst was in the kitchen, making herself egg salad in the garbage disposal

pearl sat down by the staircase that led up to steven's room

everyone was still kind of shaken from what had happened only hours before

amethyst's plan of making egg salad wasn't working so she groaned and grabbed engine oil from under the sink.

she opened the bottle and began drinking it.

there was an uncomfortable silence in the air.

"steven's gonna need some time and our support to get better" garnet said, breaking the silence

"yeah" amethyst agreed

pearl brought her knees to her chest and quietly cried.

connie sat next to her, and set her hand on the gem's shoulder.

cut to about 3 am

steven woke up from a bad dream. he went downstairs to get some water.

connie was still awake, sitting on the couch.

"hey" she said, startling steven

"uh... hey..." he said awkwardly

"what're you doing?" she questioned

"it doesn't matter" he said, avoiding the subject

"steven" she said kind of sternly, startling the boy

"come here" she said softly, patting her hand on the couch

he sighed and sat next to her

"why were you up?" she questioned again

"bad dream..." he mumbled

connie nodded "what was it about?"

"when i shattered jasper..."

connie stiffened at the mention of it. "so, it's true..." she trailed off, a little scared and concerned by the fact that he actually did it.

he actually had killed someone.

steven started crying. "it was an accident" he softly choked. "i didn't mean to"

connie looked over at the boy, and hugged him.

he curled into a ball and cried.

she just sat there, running her fingers through his hair.

cut to a week later.

steven felt bad being around the gems. he felt guilty for what had happened the previous week. so he tried to distance himself from them.

the gems didn't know how to react to this. they were all worried for him, pearl especially.

eventually, word spread to little homeschool about him distancing himself.

lapis went to visit him at the beach house. she flew up to the door and knocked.

amethyst opened the door, slightly annoyed by it being lapis.

"yeah?" she asked the ocean gem

"can i come in?" the mirror gem replied

amethyst shrugged and went to her room.

lapis sighed and walked in. she looked at the staircase that led to steven's room. she took a deep breath and walked up to his door and knocked.

steven, still in his pajamas, groaned and opened the door, surprised to see who it was.

"can i come in?" lapis asked

steven sadly nodded in agreement, walking back to his bed and sitting down.

lapis smiled and sat on the bed next to him.

"peridot and bismuth have been worried about you" lapis said, trying to start conversation.

"are they mad at me?" steven asked

"no" lapis replied, confused. "why would they be?"

"cause i turned into a giant pink monster" he replied

"no one's mad at you, steven"

some silence

she couldn't take it anymore. she hugged him, crying.

"i'm just so glad you're back"

steven cried along with his friend.

"i am too"
