Steven was driving with Connie in the passenger seat. She knew he was on edge but didn't say anything.
"Connie, I need to pull over" he said, stressed. He had gotten better at expressing himself like that
"Okay" she responded, concerned
He pulled over and was shaking. His skin glowed pink and he began to hyperventilate.
"Steven" Connie said soothingly, turning to him.
He was spiralling
"It's okay, Steven" she reassured "You're okay"
"S-sorry" he managed to choke out in between gasps
"You don't need to apologize" she reassured "You've been making great progress in your therapy and you aren't having as many nightmares or attacks, but this still happens sometimes and that's okay"
Steven managed a deep breath
"Can you tell me 5 things you can see?" Connie asked, trying to ground him
"Th-the car... The ro-road... You... The stee- the steering wheel... My hands..." He managed to respond
She led him through the rest of the 54321 and he was much more calm.
She grabbed onto his hand gently and squeezed it.
His pink glow left him.
"Feeling better?" She asked
"Yes" he responded, clearly exhausted from the hours of driving and the panic attack.
"Do you want me to drive for awhile?" She offered
He just nodded in response and the two switched seats
