Repunzel was taken by Gothel from her home kindom of Corona.
And locked up for years.
Oh mah gorsh.
I think the writers of Tangled were time travelers and saw this whole epidemic coming and were all like "Let's screw with the people of the future."
What other explanation is there?! Coincidence?!
