Schubert was getting thinner and thinner. I was getting thinner and thinner. Jessica was skin and bones. Virginia had begun to lose her boisterous personality.
Another air raid found us all upstairs, Schwab having ordered the Germans all downstairs and leaving us to worry through the night.
Pirot and Albert managed to escape from the basement without Schwab's notice, making their way upstairs to spend the tense hours of the raid with us.
When the "all-clear" was given, Pirot took Schubert with her as she left, promising me that she would hide him in her room and make sure he received some food.
I asked her if she knew when Von Steubon was to return.
She hesitated, before shaking her head.
She then departed down the hallway, Schubert resting his head on her shoulder and looking forlornly back at me.
