It said Hauptsturmfuhrer Von Steubon will return from his period of punishment on July 23. At that time, you will return for your new assignment.
Punishment, I thought first, stiffening.
I pictured them punishing Freidrich, and I wondered what sort of punishment it would be. Was it like the torture or punishments for prisoners? Or something different? Did it depend on the crime?
I was unable to fall asleep for a good long while, picturing Freidrich, alone, and having to face punishment.
Just as I drifted off, another thought crossed my mind.
July twenty-third.
Freidrich would not be here for his birthday.
