The plan was that I would leave after dark on the twenty-fourth, and make my way immediately towards the English channel.
Freidrich gave me his sister’s address. “She lives by the channel,” he said. “If you need to rest, or if you need help…Go to her. I’ve spent all this time trying to protect her…and it’s best she is still not associated with me. However, I have heard that she is involved with the French resistance, so it will most likely be alright for you to stay there, should you need help. Give…” He hesitated, before pulling a wrinkled envelope from his pocket. “Give her this.”
I nodded, taking the envelope and hiding it in my room as soon as I was in for the night.
