The next day, I went back to filing the paperwork that Von Steubon had given me yesterday. I had left it on the desk when I went to see Virginia and had forgotten about it until now.
It took me a while to familiarize myself with the filing system, but I was eventually making good progress.
I was down to almost the bottom of the pile, when I found an envelope that did not look as though it belonged.
It was labeled Hauptsturmfuhrer Von Steubon in a sharp handwriting.
I set it aside and filed the rest of my papers.
Then I sat behind my desk and waited.
Von Steubon returned to the office sometime around midday.
"Er...Sir?" I said, remembering to speak German. Von Steubon removed his cap and looked at me, gesturing for me to continue. I held up the envelope, explaining that I had found it in the pile of papers he had given me to file.
"Danke," he said, thanking me, taking the envelope. "I must have put it in that pile by mistake."
He did not explain any further, but went into his office and shut the door behind him.
