"Eds, are you in?" Richie questioned. The losers were planning a movie night at Bill's house. Eddie nodded quickly. His stomach was beginning to cramp up, making him desperate to get away from everyone.

"Alright, see you guys tonight!" Bev smiled, leaving the group. Eddie left almost immediately after, breaking into a sprint. His throat was tickly, and he knew what was coming. He ran into the bathroom, slamming the door shut. He was brought to his knees in front of the toilet, petals spilling from his mouth.

Eddie grimaced, staring at the soft pink petals floating in the toilet water. The first time petals had come out of him was two weeks ago, directly after the town fair. He had gone with Richie. It had, understandably, freaked him out, especially being the hypochondriac his friends had come to know and love. Petals were an odd thing to find in your sleeve after coughing.

Eddie knew what it was from. He had read about hanahaki disease, and he immediately knew who it was from. Richie, Eddie's best friend and Derry's resident Trashmouth, was Eddie's unrequited love.

Eddie was honestly shocked. He had assumed Richie was flirting with him, all those times when they joked and messed around. But Eddie knew the disease had to be from Richie. He was the only person the small boy had ever loved.

Eddie spit out the last few petals, flushing them away. He could feel the soft flowers in his chest, taking over his heart and lungs. He knew he would die if it wasn't taken care of soon. Eddie sighed, staring at his reflection in the mirror. He looked sick, his skin pale and sticky, his eyes bloodshot and droopy. The bags under his eyes were especially pronounced, completing the look. Eddie looked as if he was dying, which, in a way, he was. The only way he could be cured was if Richie returned his love, or to get the flowers surgically removed. But surgery would also remove his feelings for Richie, and Eddie couldn't bear the thought of that.

Tonight was Eddie's chance. He knew he didn't have much time left, judging by the increasing quantity of petals coming out. The pain in his chest was becoming unbearable, but Eddie had to push through it if he wanted to have a final shot at life. He shrugged on a soft sweater, trying his best to look cute for the movie night. Eddie took a deep breath, then ran out the door. He didn't live too far from Bill's house, so he climbed on his bike and pushed off.

Eddie coasted down the street, coughing up a petal or two on the way. He pulled into Bill's driveway, noting the five bikes already piled up.

"Eh-Eddie! You m-made it!" Bill exclaimed. Eddie met Richie's eyes for a moment, his cheeks dusted over in a slight flush. He claimed his spot on the couch next to his unrequited lover, awkwardly glancing at him every few seconds. Richie noticed Eddie's state, frowning at the pale face of death sitting besides him.

"Eds, are you ok?" Richie questioned. Eddie seemed to jolt at the question, eyes darting around nervously.

"Yeah... I'm fine," he answered quickly. Eddie coughed, accidentally dropping a petal onto the couch. Richie was fast, taking it and examining the light pink petal. He held it up, eyebrows furrowed.

"Why did you just cough up a flower petal?" Eddie groaned, grabbing Richie by the wrist. He led the curly-haired boy into the kitchen for more privacy. Under the bright lights, Richie could see how horribly awful Eddie looked. The smaller boy seemed miserable, and Richie couldn't place the feeling something was terribly wrong with his best friend.

"Richie... I've been meaning to tell you shout this," Eddie sighed, taking the petal. "I-I'm sick, Rich. Really sick." His voice was trembling. "A-and I... I might not make it. But I can't fix that. Only you can." Richie's eyes widened, and Eddie continued, his voice dropping to a whisper. "I have Hanahaki disease. It was caused by-" Eddie coughed again, more petals spilling out. The light pink was now accompanied by royal blue and lavender. The asthmatic boy let out a pitiful sob, the pain in his chest intensifying. Richie watched with horror in his eyes, frozen in place. "It was caused by unrequited love." Eddie took a deep breath. "Richie, I love you. I have since that day at the fair. I'm sor-"

"Shut up, Kaspbrak." Richie planted a passionate kiss on Eddie's lips. The smaller boy felt the pain in his chest recede. They broke away, Eddie hiccuping softly. Only a singular petal came out: a deep crimson color, in the shape of a heart. He looked at Richie, petal in hand. The taller boy looked just as surprised as he was.

"Richie, you-"

"Yeah, Eds. I don't know why I didn't realize it sooner. I love you too, Spaghetti," Richie grinned, pinching Eddie's red cheeks. The smaller boy had already began to look healthier, the color coming back to his face, his under eye bags less dramatic. Richie smiled, bringing his lips to Eddie's once again.

"Thank, you, Rich." Eddie's cheeks were an adorable dusty pink, the smile Richie hadn't seen in weeks shining beautifully before him.

"Well, Eds, whadda say to going back to the other losers? Maybe there's still some extra popcorn left for us," Richie suggested, taking Eddie's hand.

"That sounds lovely, Richie."
