Chapter 27

It wasn't until the next day when Miku solved the equation that she realized Senku had confessed to her. And boy was she a blushing mess. Obviously she told her two best friends Gen and Kohaku.

Miku didn't know what to do. Of course, she felt the same, however, now that they have entered the age of machines she needed to focus now more than ever. So for the next few months, Miku helped Senku automate the furnace, preserve food, make wine, and create light bulbs.

Soon enough snow started to stick to the ground.

It was Christmas time and Senku had a very special surprise for Miku. Chrome and Senku had finished setting up the lightbulbs on the tree. Everyone was gathered around to witness the lighting of the tree.

The lights shone brightly.

"An illumination...all at once it feels like we've been transported back to the modern era that is," Gen says.

Two months to get to this point...Oho took quite a while didn't it?" Kaseki asked.

"Nah, not really. This is all according to plan," Senku states.

That's when Gen realized what day it was.

"Ahhh! Could it be...today is CHRISTMAS!!" Gen says while Miku giggles.

"Senku has a remarkable mind that remembers what day it is," Miku says, grabbing onto Senku's hand.

Senku gives her hand a squeeze.

"Yeah now that you mention it, Miku I have something for you," Senku says while pulling out a small box.

Miku turned towards him, red dusting her cheeks. Senku's cheeks also had a red hue to them. He placed the small box in her hands. Everyone literally crowded around to see what the know it all-knowing scientist gave the kind-hearted scientist.

Upon opening it Miku began to cry. Miku, who always went to America for the holidays. Miku, whose first Christmas in Japan received a gift that she cherished from the boy she loved. Miku looked at the necklace that had a gold rocket and star attached to it. Lifting it out of the box she noticed there was a new addition. There was half of a gear charm with the letter S on it.

Looking at Senku he pulled out a necklace that had the other half of the gear charm. Taking the necklace from her, he combined the two pieces. Miku saw that his half had an M on it.

"Merry Christmas Miku," Senku says.

Miku hugged Senku and he wrapped his arms tightly around her.

"Thank you Miku...for everything," Senku whispered.

"You're welcome. Thank you for the present," Miku whispered.

Pulling apart Miku wiped away her tears.

"I don't have a present for," Miku says sadly.

"It's ok Miku. You're rebuilding civilization with me. There's no one else I would rather do that with," Senku says softly.

Of course, the moment was only a moment. Chrome burst out saying he had an idea for the lights.

The next day Senku went off to see what Chrome's grand idea was while Miku and Kaseki started on making a vacuum tube.

It was a delicate process and when Senku came back he insisted on making it.

"Sure let the man with no craft skills work on making a delicate gear," Miku says with her arms crossed.

"If I didn't know any better Senku, I would think that you are trying to impress Miku," Gen said with a smug look on his face.

"It won't work either way," Miku says with a serious face.

Gen looks over at Miku," What do you mean it won't work either way?"

"We simply don't have the metals that are required to make the vacuum tube," Miku explains.

So for the next week or so Senku and the gang tried everything to create the vacuum tube. Senku even tried making a copper tube from the copper Chrome brought back from his expedition.

Sadly to no avail, as Miku had said, they didn't have the materials to make the vacuum tube work.

Later one night, Senku looked out of the storehouse in deep thought. He was brought out of his thoughts when he felt someone wrap their arms around him. Senku didn't bother to look already knowing who it was.

"Don't lose hope Senku. We just have to check the caves again," Miku says quietly.

Senku just nodded and got ready for bed. Miku laid down next to Senku in her own sleeping bag and snuggled up next to Senku. Senku gave her a questioning look.

"We need to conserve heat. It's cold outside," Miku says, bringing her blanket up past her nose only having her eyes showing. Senku just brought Miku closer and soon the two fell asleep. Sometime in the early morning, Gen came to wake them up.

"Oh, What do we have here?" Gen asks.

"What time is it?" Miku asks while a grumpy Senku shoots daggers at Gen with his eyes.

"It's New Year's Day. We've got to watch the first sunrise with everyone," Gen says while climbing down the ladder.

Miku basically had to drag Senku out of bed.

Once everyone was at the cliff they waited for the sun to come up. Miku stood next to Senku, reaching out to grab his hand. Senku looked over at Suika who was holding up a rock. Once the sun started to rise the rock shone a bright beautiful blue color.

"This is the first time I've seen something like this," Chrome says reaching out to touch the rock.

"Yeah, me too. It's an ultra-rare crystal. I have to commend your excellence Suika and Chrome! It was still used as a filament in modern times. Atomic number 74, Tungsten! It won't lose to heat. It's the strongest metal in the universe!!" Senku explains.

Miku jumps up, "Alright! I'm fired up now!"

And so the mining expedition started. With Senku gone everyone was able to put the finishing touches on the surprise.

"So is everything ready?"

"I barely was able to finish."

"So you finally are going to confess?"

"Yeah. I think it's about time I tell him. Even though he probably knows how I feel."

"Don't worry Miku. You'll be just fine."

"Thanks, Gen."
