In light of the recent events, Derek called a pack meeting for Wednesday evening. After tracking down the crime scene, the three of them discovered that a family of Wendigos had been slaughtered. They had managed to get around the cops with the help of Stiles's dad who was willing to work with them when the supernatural was involved.
Lydia nearly screamed when she witnessed the number of dead bodies around the house. She held onto Stiles who stroked her hair while Derek examined the scene.
Everyone stood around Derek's table, waiting for him to tell them what was going on. Scott and Allison had both noticed the tension hanging around their best friends but Lydia and Stiles had stayed tight-lipped about the situation all day. Everyone was on edge, sensing something was wrong.
"Yesterday a family of Wendigos was murdered," Derek announced, a silence falling over the pack.
"What does that have to do with us?" Isaac asked spinning on a stool until Scott stopped him.
"We still don't know what killed them or what they want. Everyone is to be on high alert until we figure out what's going on." Derek ordered. Allison glanced at her feet, taking a deep breath before speaking up.
"I think I might know." She confessed as all eyes turned to her. "I overheard my dad mention something about a list. Apparently there's a list of all the supernatural creatures in Beacon Hills."
"Where did it come from?" Derek's tone was slightly agitated as he wondered why Allison hadn't told them sooner. He had been hesitant to let her into the pack, especially after she shot a few too many arrows into him. He didn't fully trust her but Stiles did which helped ease his concerns.
"I have no idea but I think it was sent to all hunters," Allison explained. "I can try to ask him about it."
"Do whatever it takes to get that list," Derek instructed. "Everyone else, stay on the down-low."
"That's it? An entire family was murdered so we have to be careful?" Malia rolled her eyes earning a harsh glare from Derek.
"There's not much we can do until we know what we're up against." Scott defended Derek.
"It's not going to do us any good to go in claws first brains later," Lydia added, staring directly at Malia. Malia growled at her until Kira placed a hand on her shoulder warning her to stop.
"You want a plan? Here. Allison's going to get the list. Lydia and I are going to work with my dad to figure out what's going on. Scott and Isaac, you go to Deaton and see if he knows about anything. Derek is going to get the word out to any packs in the area that he knows until Allison can get us the full list. And everyone is going to use the buddy system. Outside of school stay with a pack member at all times." Everyone stared at Stiles, dumbfounded that he took charge. He waited for someone to answer while everyone else waited for Derek to pin him against the wall and growl at him.
"Stiles is right and if anyone has a problem with it, they answer to me." Derek shocked them all by supporting Stiles while Lydia fought off a smile. Stiles, on the other hand, was proudly smirking. "We'll meet again as soon as Allison gets a copy of the list." He dismissed the pack and most people rushed to leave. Lydia and Stiles hung around, waiting for everyone to leave.
"I'll wait in the jeep. Don't be too long." Lydia took Stiles's keys and disappeared out of the loft. Derek had to admit, Lydia was growing on him.
"I can't believe you defended me." Stiles grinned playfully. Derek shook his head with a chuckle.
"It was a good plan," Derek stated with a shrug.
"I think it's just because you love me." Stiles teased and Derek rolled his eyes.
"We've got about five minutes before you have to go drive Lydia home." Derek reminded him, tired of wasting time.
"A whole five minutes? Hmm, I wonder what we could do. We could-" Derek cut Stiles off, doing the thing he had been waiting for all evening. Stiles returned the kiss, smiling into it. Derek's lips trailed down Stiles's neck. "Are things ever going to be easy for us?"
"No," Derek stated simply, trying to get Stiles to stop talking. Stiles got the hint and shut up allowing Derek to continue. He heard the horn of his jeep go off and he silently cursed Lydia.
"That's my cue." Stiles sighed, wishing he didn't have to go. Stiles slipped on his shoes and reached for the door when Derek stopped him.
"Stiles." His voice sounded smaller than Stiles was used to. He turned around and met Derek's eyes. "Be careful." Stiles wasn't a werewolf. He wasn't as durable as the rest of them and Stiles had a habit of throwing himself into situations to protect his friends...and sometimes just for fun. With this new threat, Derek found himself worried especially about the boy who had found his way into his heart.
"I will," Stiles promised. Derek was surprised by the genuine tone of his voice. He had been expecting a joke. But Stiles knew how vulnerable Derek could be when it came to the people he loved. And now that he fit into that category, he had to make sure Derek didn't lose anyone else.
Another honk from the horn broke their eye-contact. Stiles kissed Derek one last time before sprinting out to the jeep. He climbed in and took a deep breath before meeting Lydia's glare.
"Is it possible to love and hate someone at the same time?" He wondered aloud as he started the car.
"Who? Derek?"
"No, you." Lydia rolled her eyes at Siles's response.
"Hey, not everyone's parents know that their kid is part of a werewolf pack. Some of us still have a curfew." She reminded him.
"Lydia Martin has a curfew?" Stiles's eyes widened in disbelief. Lydia shook her head at him lightly smacking his leg.
"You're an idiot, Stilinski."
Stiles pulled up to Lydia's house. He parked the car and shocked her by getting out.
"What are you doing?" She furrowed her brows at him as he fell into step beside her.
"Walking you to your door."
"Why?"
"Because there is someone hunting supernatural beings and I'm making sure you get home safe." He explained as they reached her door.
"I'm home. You're free to go." She grinned as she reached for the doorknob. He lingered for a few seconds and Lydia threw her arms around him. "I'm going to be fine. I'll see you tomorrow." He returned the embrace, resting his head on hers.
"Goodnight, Lydia." He smiled as he pulled away.
"Goodnight, Stiles." She replied before disappearing into her house. She waved to him once she was inside and he went back to his jeep.
