*This was fun to write! Gyro is another one of my favorite characters, and I really liked using this prompt I had in mind for him
No-one's P.O.V.
The Steel Ball Race, for a race set up in America, the competitors of the race were all varied from different states, different countries, different blood, different people.
Two competitors being Johnny Joestar, a famous jockey and the son of aristocrats and Gyro Zeppeli, the assistant and son of the executioner in the Kingdom of Naples.
Currently, the two were camping since the sun had set. Johnny sat down, leaning against a log while Gyro was chit-chatting about whatever had popped into his head. Then, suddenly, the duo heard a shrill scream, followed by a horse galloping.
Johnny looked over the log and grabbed onto Gyro's sleeve. "Hey! Hey! There's a girl over there!" He shouted in a whispery voice at him. Gyro looked over as well. As the jockey said, a lady laid there in the dirt. Her face was covered, scratches visible on her arms. "Should we help her?" Johnny asked as he turned to him. The male was hesitant before nodding. He leapt over the log and walked over to the woman in the dirt.
Once he was close enough, he leaned over to try and see her face better and asked her; "Hello? Ma'am? Are you alright?" He stopped leaning over, taking a step back as she tried to prop herself up, only for her to fall again. "Could you please... assist me?" She said, her voice slightly raspy but much more pleading. "O-Of course, miss."
Gyro then helped her up, bringing one of her arms over his shoulders and keeping his arms around her waist, helping her walk to the camp. He then leaned her against the log, bringing her a canteen of water and sitting beside her.
"Hey, who are you? And where's your horse?" Johnny asked, looking somewhat suspicious at the lady. From the details on her face, she seemed to be around Gyro's age. The woman brought a hand up to her head, running her fingers through her hair and said; "My name is Y/n L/n, and my horse ran off on me. I was finding a place to camp with my teammate, when my horse lost control of them-self, and ran off with me on it. It ran around for quite a bit, and then it stopped, leaving me there."
Johnny glanced over at Gyro who did the same, both of them sharing a shocked stare. "I'm sorry ma'am, but, Y/n? As in, Princess Y/n of the Kingdom of Bordeaux?" Gyro inquired intriguingly. The woman sighed, nodding weakly. "Yes. Me and my personal guard are participating, actually."
"Why is an actual princess- scratch that. Why is a pure-blood in this race!?" He exclaimed. She huffed lightly, shaking her head. "Oh, I knew I shouldn't have entered this... Is it alright if I rest here?" She asked. Johnny was about to suggest something else when Gyro had responded with; "Yes. I mean, go ahead."
She nodded before stumbling over to the opposite end of the log to them, falling asleep quickly. Johnny turned to Gyro, still astonished by who they had just met. "Gyro... let's be careful around her. We don't know if she has stand abilities, so be cautious."
The male nodded before quickly glancing back at her. Neither of the two expected to actually meet a princess.
The next morning...
Gyro knelt down next to the girl, shaking her slightly to wake up. "Hey, hey princess. Wake up, we're going." He said, hearing a small groan come from her. She turned over on her side, looking up at him, only to remember what had happened. "Ah, yes."
She stood up fully, dusting herself off, and as she did, Gyro kept his gaze on her now getting a full look on what she looked like in day-light. Lovely, soft-looking H/c hair, wonderful eyes and each feature on her face, they complimented each other to the point where she looked perfect. "Umm, sir, you're staring." She said. Gyro's heart fluttered to the sound of her voice fully. His face lit up and he turned back around to his horse. He then helped her up onto Valkyrie, and got on as well. The three left the packed up site and continued their travel, with the princess keeping her arms around his waist.
"Hey Princess L/n, why are you racing in the Steel Ball Race? I thought princesses are usually married around age eighteen?" Johnny asked, curiosity lacing his light voice. The princess sighed, before explaining;
"I... am participating in the race, actually, along with my guard. My parents believed it would grant me a little freedom due to how I had been begging to do something like this. Though, if I could, I would be running away, maybe change my name... but for now, I can't. Royalty is exhausting."
An exciting chill ran up Gyro's spine as he felt her face nuzzle into his back. He smiled giddily and blushed. "Yep! I-I can relate." "Oh? You're from royalty as well?" "Er... kinda."
Gyro glanced over at his companion, who gave him a thumbs up. "I'm actually... work for the royals in my kingdom. The Kingdom of Naples, if you've ever heard of the place." "Naples... I think I've met the royal family once to marry. It didn't work though."
"Oh, how unfortunate. I-I would've loved to see your face around the castle sometimes." Gyro stated without thinking, making the lady smirk. "Oh? Seeing me? What's that supposed to mean? Are you the prince or something?" "Prince!? Have you witnessed me? I'd never even compare to someone like-like, like you!"
Y/n gave a lively laugh, smiling brightly. It seemed to be intoxicating, causing Gyro to also laugh as well.
"Guys! Guys! There's people behind us!"
The laughter stopped and the two looked over to where Johnny was pointing. There were people following! One clad in armor and the other dressed like an aristocrat. Y/n's grip tightened as she commanded the two in a serious yet frightened tone. "Run."
Slow Dancer and Valkyrie both sped up, the two focused on speeding up as Y/n kept her gaze on the two behind. "Be careful and stay away from them." She stated, leaning over to his ear for him to hear. Suddenly, a large lasso appeared from the armored one. Her eyes widened as she demanded; "Faster!"
Gyro looked back, but slightly froze. "Isn't that your guard?" He asked, noticing the crest on the armor as Valkyrie slightly slowed down. The large, long lasso from the guards was then released, grabbing onto Y/n and pulling her off, dragging her onto the ground. "GAH!"
"Y/n!" As Slow Dancer stopped in their tracks, along with Johnny who looked over with shock, Gyro chased after her. The lady was then dragged into the guards arms. She gritted her teeth, fighting to be released from their arms.
Suddenly, a green-steel ball was thrown at the guards helmet, making a loud ring. The guard let go, grabbing onto the helmet, but before Y/n could run back, a hand had grabbed onto her arm tightly. "Love! I thought you were coming back for us! Not running away with those... peasants."
"Hey!" Gyro stopped, and slipped off his horse. He walked up to Y/n, taking her hand into his. "What do you think you're doing!?" He inquired, his gaze slightly boring into the man.
He chuckled and stated; "I am Princess Y/n's husband-to-be! We entered this race to win extra money for our wedding!"
Shock. The feeling ran through his blood as he froze in place, still holding her hand. He looked over at the lady who was keeping her gaze down with shame. Gyro let go of her hand, taking a step back. "You're her... fiance."
"Yes! Now, ta-tah! Peasant!" "Wait!"
Y/n grabbed onto Gyro's arm, her eyes drowning in humiliation and yet they held a profound feeling as she stared at him, trying to search through his own pair. "I want... I... hope we meet again after the race." There was an exhaustion in her words, almost as if she led off to say something she didn't wish to.
Y/n's fiance then helped her up onto his horse, looking at Gyro with a certain, sadistic look. The guard got up on his horse and followed the two, going onward with the race.
Gyro looked down at his feet and sighed. He then got up on Valkyrie, following Johnny with a more somber attitude. "Gyro, buddy, it's alright." Johnny said, trying to cheer up the male. Gyro sighed again, shaking his head.
"...Yeah, thanks Johnny."
