Chapter 1

Thud...thud...thud...

It was a beautiful night sky when a pebble was thrown towards the princess's window. 

SeokJin: "Ye won ah!"

He continues to throw a pebble at the window until she opens it slowly.

Yewon: "What are you doing?"

Seokjin: "Come outside! I have something to show you!"

Yewon: "Are the maids there?"

Seokjin: "No, they just left. So hurry before anyone comes!"

Yewon slides the front door of her chambers, put on her tiny shoes, and runs to Seokjin. 

Yewon: "I was waiting for you, why did you not come?"

Seokjin: "There were many people watching you, so I can not enter. But here, I got you this."

Yewon look down and see the wooden sword that Seokjin was holding, she took it and smile brightly. Seokjin knew that Yewon was not interested in books and sewing but sword fighting. 

Seokjin: "Let me teach you or else you might hurt yourself."

Both Seokjin and Yewon had met each other when they were 5 and grew very attached to each other ever since because they both wanted the same goal which was freedom.  

Seokjin's mother was a gisaeng, a person who entertains customer by dancing or special offers, and he dreams of taking his mother away from the place that bounds her as well as his grandpa who was the servant of Yewon's father. 

On the other hand, Yewon was a princess who was bound from many rules. She must stick to living the life of a respectful princess which she does not enjoy. She plans to run away from the life of a princess and live freely while running on the grass.

After a while of training Yewon, they both took a seat in front of Yewon's chambers and look at the shining stars. 

Yewon: "Seokjin, you are my best friend. I like you the best."

Seokjin: "I also like you the best."

Yewon: "Can you promise me that you will stay with me forever?"

Seokjin: "Then you have to promise me to stay with me too."

Yewon drops down to the floor on her knees, her white gown touches the dirt, and she clasps her two small hands together, "I, Princess Yewon, promise to stay with Seokjin until the moment of my last breath."

Seokjin then went onto his knees right next to Yewon and clasps his two hands together, "I, Kim Seokjin, promises to stay with Princess Yewon until the moment of my last breath in this world."

Both: "We both promise to the sky and to the ground that if we are still alive in this world, we will not betray...will not leave each other... and will protect each other. If one person betray this oath, may that person live with unhappiness until the day of their death."

Seokjin: "Wait, before we bow, I give you this as a evidence of this promise."

He search in his pockets and takes out a cloth that was embroidered with a cherry blossom flower, he gave it to her. 

Seokjin: "I have always had this with me when I was young from my mother, I give you this to make sure that our promise will forever be valid."

Yewon: "Wait here for me."

She went into her room for a while and came out with a small box, she opens it and there was a hairpin that was also a cherry blossom flower, she gave it to him. 

Seokjin: "Cherry blossom flower."

Yewon: "This is our promise objects, as long as you have this, I will always follow you."

Seokjin: "As long as you have the item I give you, I will do as you say."

They both bow to the ground and to the sky which represents that the ground and the sky will be the evidence that they made a promise along with these objects. 

If the sky and the ground is still where it is when we made this promise, then our promise will still be valid until death.

They both were 13 when the promise was made and it became a bond that can never be broken no matter what happens. But they were too young and clueless to know about how cruel the world can be, and because of that, it slowly strips them from hope everyday.
