8. CO2

The expedition was in a few days.

I unloaded some cargo at the castle.

"(Y/n)!" Petra came running. "Let me help you."

"Oh, thanks, Petra." I said.

She giggled and started talking to me about her and Captain this morning. My ears toned out. This constant talking of her and Captain was a bit awkward for me.

I smiled lopsidedly. "Good for you!"

We walked as we reached the doors. It was my first time here and the place was so clean. Spotless even.

"I'll carry that for you, Petra dear." Oluo smirked.

"That's seriously creepy." Petra scrunched her face.

While the squad talked, I wandered around inside the castle. I saw a partially closed door and nudged it. The door opened so easily and I saw an office room. I walked inside and found this room to be even cleaner than the rest of the castle. It was obvious who this room belonged to.

Well, I better get out before he sees me.

"(Y/n)?"

I screamed and the person behind me also screamed. I turned around to see Eren.

"Jesus, Eren." I said. "You scared me."

"I should be saying that!" He said.

I flicked his forehead. "Alright."

He then ruffled my hair even though I was older than him. One of the strands went into my eye and it burned. I then chased him down the hallway. He turned a corner and when I did, I bumped into something firm. I then looked up and came face to face with Levi's face! He breathed and I felt his CO2 touch my face. It was warm. I sprang away from him.

"Oi." He said. "Don't run in the hallway." He then saw Eren and clicked his tongue. "Tch. You, too, brat."

"Sorry, Captain." Eren said. "Come on, apologize." He pushed my head down.

I lifted my head up a bit, seeing his eyes and then he walked away.

Night approached and I was about to walk out but then Petra stopped me.

"(Y/n)!" She said. "I'll miss you so why don't you stay tonight? Oh, I know. You can sleep with me!"

"Um, sure..."

I wasn't sure why I even agreed. Probably because of the sparkles in her eyes or the fact that I was staying at a castle. Well, I don't know.

I followed her deep into the castle. There was the squad and Eren. And then Levi at the very edge of the table holding his teacup by the rim. I see that he hasn't changed that habit.

"You're still here?" He noticed me.

"Yeah, w-what about it?" I crossed my arms.

"Mm." He stared off into the distance.

"Captain!" Petra walked up to him. "(Y/n) said she wants to spar with you!"

I nearly choked her-I mean myself.

"I-um-" I was at a loss for words.

Just...what the HELL?!

She stuck her tongue out at me playfully.

"You're so funny!" She laughed and then leaned in and whispered. "Sorry, it's been nothing but cleaning and training."

I smiled lopsidedly.

"Oh?" Oluo smirked. "Not bad for a brat. You're rather brave to challenge the captain himself."

Eren got up and put his hands on my shoulders. "Are you out of your mind? If you want to spar with someone, just use me instead."

I tried to brush his hands off but he didn't budge.

"You're hurting me." I said.

"Move it." Levi said to Eren and then faced me. "Fine. I wanted to see if you're ready for the expedition anyway."

I stood unwillingly at the center of the room.

I honestly didn't feel like doing this crap and I'm tired. But hey, maybe I can pay back Levi for what he did to me.

I readied myself and took the initiative of aiming a punch towards his abdomen. He dodged as expected and was behind me in an instant. I didn't find time to turn around before he grabbed my arms in an awkward position, stopping my movements. He was right behind me and I felt his CO2 hitting my ears. I tried to not let out a noise since my ears were rather ticklish. My eyes then met Petra's. She didn't seem too happy. Levi let me go.

"Not bad." He said and sat down.

I felt like he was sugarcoating me but I guess he is humanity's strongest soldier after all.

"Anyway," I said. "I'm going to bed."

"No." He said.

"What?!"

"Take a shower first."
