I walked to the mess hall as always and sat with my group. As I did, they all stared at me.

"W-What?" I said.

"I'm so sorry that happened to you." Armin said.

"He didn't even budge when people died during the expedition." Jean said.

"You should stay away from him." Connie said.

"I wouldn't share my food with him." Sasha bit into her bread.

"I knew that shorty ain't anything good." Mikasa spat.

"(Y/n), if he tries to do anything, just let me know." Eren said.

I was taken aback by them. I tried to explain but they all talked over me.

"GUYS!" I shouted.

Everyone in the mess hall, including Levi, stared at me. I shrunk and quieted down.

"It's not like that!" I said in a low voice.

Eren put his hand on my shoulder.

"I get it, (y/n)." He smiled.

My eyes lit up. "You do?"

"Yeah." He nodded. "Captain's here so you can't talk about it, right? Don't worry, we understand completely."

Everyone nodded, reassuring me. My face fell.

These idiots do not understand a dang thing!

I tried to explain again but they all just went back to the, "oh captain is here so you can't talk about it," stuff.

I sighed.

Why do I even try?

I nudged the bridge of my nose from my sudden headache.

"Anyway, you should eat." Eren scooped up some soup with the spoon. "Here."

I looked at it. Mikasa did as well.

"Eren, what are you doing?" I sweated a little from Mikasa's stare.

"Huh? Oh!" He blushed. "Sorry, I just...I don't know."

Night

I couldn't sleep as I laid in bed.

I extended my hand out to the ceiling before retracting it. The night stretched long as the silence was replaced by crickets screaming.

I felt confused with my feelings. Memories of the past also kept surfacing up in me, especially the unpleasant ones. And Lily is still unconscious.

I then got up and wandered the hallways until I came to a dark spot. It reminded me of being locked in the closet by the old man. As I did, I felt my breath hitch. There was an ugly feeling in my throat and I couldn't gulp it down.

I felt a hand on my shoulder and quickly curled to the ground.

"(L/n)." It was Levi. "What're you doing?"

"Captain..." I said.

Noticing my distress, he extended a hand out to me. I took it.

"It's the middle of the night." He says.

"...I couldn't sleep." I answered.

I hate the dark.

He sighs. "Come to my office."

I nodded and followed him.

When we arrived, he sat on his chair with me across him. I looked at him with his arms crossed as usual. Remembering the event from yesterday, my eyes trailed to his lips.

He looked at me and I was startled a little.

"How's your arm?" He asked.

"It's alright." I scratched my cheek. "Um, how'd you know?"

"It's obvious."

No one else noticed though.

"Is it treated?"

"Y-Yeah."

Seeing through my lie, he got up and walked to the side of my injured arm. He rolled up my sleeve before I could protest. His eyes widened a bit at the sight. I covered my wrist as silence fell.

"Why?" He finally spoke.

I looked down from him before answering. "...I was lonely."

His expression didn't change and I couldn't quite read him.

"But I'm okay." I said.

His hand gently held my mine and lifted it from my wrist, revealing the scars underneath.

"Go to bed after I treat your arm." He said.

"But I..."

"I'll stay with you until you fall asleep."

My eyes lit up.

"Oi." His eyes widened again. "What're you crying for?"

"I'm not." I say despite the huge droplets falling from my face.

I started to hiccup from my tears.

After the treatment, he took my hand and I was pulled along to my room.

Laying in bed, I watched him look through his papers from the side of my bed.

I smiled.

Soon, the crickets' screams turned into a lullaby and I fell into a deep slumber.
