Ray couldn't believe what Frank had just told him. It just couldn't be right. It couldn't be.
"Are you sure?", he asked again, the frown still very prominent on his face. Frank gripped at his hair tightly again and kept pacing around his room.
"Yes I am! Fucking hell!", Frank yelled and grabbed the thing nearest to him, luckily a pillow, and threw it against his wall, before picking it up again and slamming his fist into it a few times.
"But- He would never-".
"Well he fucking has!", Frank interrupted him, while punching into his pillow. "I swear, Bert made him do that. He wouldn't do that. He fucking wouldn't", he spat out, but his voice wasn't as angry anymore. It was sounding strangled and hurt. He was hurt.
"Frank", Ray said softly and grabbed Franks arm gently, stopping him from punching his innocent pillow.
"He wouldn't", the younger choked out and dropped the pillow down to the floor, his shoulders trembling slightly. "He never would", he sobbed, actually sobbed, and Ray took a step closer to him, wrapping his arms around Franks smaller frame and pulling him close to his chest. Frank almost collapsed against him and started to cry into his chest. "I don't know what I did wrong", he sobbed again, burying his face into Rays shirt and soaking it with his tears. Ray didn't mind.
"You did nothing wrong", Ray assured him and helped him sit down on the bed, not removing his arms from around Frank. "He wouldn't normally do that. We both know that. And I doubt that Gerard really doesn't want to come to your birthday party. He loves you so much". Frank looked up at him a little. "I bet he is scared that Bert might hurt you, if he finds out that you're spending time with Gee", Ray explained, trying to think of a plausible reason as to why Gerard told Frank, via text, that he wouldn't come to his birthday tomorrow.
"He told me today in school that he doesn't trust me anymore", Frank mumbled, wiping his tears away gently. "He said that he can't trust me. He can't. It sounded like he wants to trust me but he doesn't allow himself".
"Or Bert doesn't allow him", Ray shrugged and rubbed over Franks back a little. "Whatever. Fact is, that Gerard is trying to please Bert as much as possible. And if that means that he can't show up to your birthday, then it just is that way. I don't think we can just change Gee in that way", he sighed.
"But I want to change him. I want him to be happy again", the younger quickly wiped at his face again, not looking up at Ray. "I want my best friend back", he whispered.
"I know", Ray sighed and hugged him close again. "But it looks like all Gee can focus on right now is Bert. You said yourself that we can't just walk up to him and tell him that Bert is an asshole. He wouldn't believe us. He's living in his fantasy world now, and all we can do, sadly, is to be there for him as much as we can. Gee has to realize himself that Bert isn't good for him", Ray reasoned and rubbed Franks back more, trying to soothe his rapid breathing.
"Ray?", Frank asked timidly and looked up at him a little, his face red from crying and a few tears still slid down his cheeks.
"Yes Frank?".
"Why do you have to be such a mom already?", he laughed softly, but it sounded forced by how he basically choked out the words.
"Frank", Ray sighed and rolled his eyes, the younger giggled softly, but sniffled again. "I don't want to get your hopes up, but your party is tomorrow night. Maybe Gee has changed his mind 'til then", he said softly and the shadow of a smile hushed over his lips.
"Yeah, maybe", Frank nodded, more to himself than to Ray. The younger took a deep shaky breath and moved away from the other a little, wiping his face as he sat up straighter. "Let's play guitar or something. I don't want to think about it too much right now", Frank said while he got up and walked over to Pansy, picking her up and looking over at Ray with a small smile on his face, his eyes still red and puffy. "You comin'?".
