Frank came back outside onto the porch a few minutes later again, now wearing a hoodie, that was at least three sizes too big for him, instead of the white button up. He had gotten a big fluffy blanket, two cans of soda and a bag of chips. He sat down close to Gerard again and put the things down, Gerard taking the blanket from him and wrapping it around the two of them. They shuffled a little closer to each other, sharing their body heat with each other, and opened their soda cans, clinking them together and taking a sip. Gerard looked at Frank and smiled softly, running his hand through Frank's hair gently.
"I really like what you did with it", he mumbled and ran his fingers through the soft, shaved sides. Frank just giggled and leaned his head into Gerards hand gently.
"Thanks. Mom wanted to help me with it, but I was like "No don't, I'm too punk rock for help" and she actually laughed at me", he told the older and looked up into his eyes with a smile. Gerard moved Franks fringe to the side of his face gently, making the end of it curl into a swoop.
"Understandable", Gerard giggled, earning a small slap on the arm from Frank. "No, you're very punk rock Frankie, don't worry", he giggled again and Frank chuckled, taking another sip of his soda.
They looked up at the night sky. There were no clouds in the sky and if you squinted a little, you could actually see the stars. Gerard was certain that they would be able to see them better if they would turn the porch light off, but Frank wanted it to stay on for now. This way, they were at least able to see each other properly. It was close to midnight now, but it was Friday so it was okay. Franks mom had already gone to sleep and Gerard was sure that Mikey would tell their parents that he was with Frank. Not that they would be worried about him, but still. He had to thank his brother properly later.
"Gee?", Frank asked softly, making Gerard shift his gaze from the stars to his friend.
"Yes, Frankie?", he asked back, just as softly.
"What happened that night you tried to call me?", he asked, looking down at his lap. Gerard tensed slightly, but relaxed again as he felt Frank taking his hand underneath the blanket gently. "You don't have to tell me if you don't want to", Frank reassured.
"I want to tell you", Gerard said after a small pause. Frank nodded and squeezed Gerards hand. Gerard squeezed back. "My mom came into my room after you had left. She asked me if I didn't think it would be better if I would get into a mental hospital and after I declined she asked me if I knew why I am the way I am. You know, with me being shy and not having many friends", he drifted off slowly. Frank nodded again and shifted slightly so Gerard could lean into him. "I told her that I talked to my therapist about it as well and that we both think that I could be shy because of how my parents treated me when I was younger", he explained, leaning his head onto Franks shoulder.
"The whole "Don't act like that because we don't want the neighbors to talk" thing?", the younger asked, wrapping his free arm around Gerard and playing with his hair gently.
"Exactly that", Gerard sighed and closed his eyes. "I didn't want to tell mom that though, so I just said that my problems are more family related". Frank inhaled sharply. "Yup", Gerard confirmed his thoughts before Frank could even voice them. "She thought that I meant that everything is their fault and before I could explain myself she stormed out crying". Frank stayed quiet and kept playing with Gerards hair. "I locked myself in the bathroom, because I knew that dad would come downstairs soon and a few minutes later he did", he shuddered a little at the memory. Frank held him closer. "He was really calm at first, but then he started to yell at me. How I dared to blame them for everything and how I even dared to say that out loud. I couldn't answer and then he said that he would beat me up as soon as he would get into the bathroom or as soon as I would come out. He kept kicking and slamming against the door and there was nothing I could do. That was when I tried to call you. Mom came downstairs as well and yelled at dad to leave me alone and he slapped her". Gerard could feel the tears in his eyes again and snuggled more into Franks chest. "They argued for a while until Mikey came and made them go upstairs. He stayed with me all night, but I couldn't sleep because I was so scared that dad would come in at any second to beat me up. That's when I texted Bert. I stayed up until he left for work and then I allowed myself to sleep for a bit. A-And...", Gerard stuttered, closing his eyes tightly.
