"Frank!", Gerard called out, panicked, after Frank had run up the stairs, closely followed by the slam of the front door. Gerard immediately got up and ran towards the door, desperate to run after Frank. Maybe he could still catch up to him. He had to catch up to him. There must have been a reason Frank came here so late in the evening. Gerard had to catch up, he had nothing else in mind. He just had to-
A hand grabbed his arm, stopping him from running up the stairs. Stopping his thoughts. His gaze quickly fell down to his wrist and Berts hand that was holding it. He looked up at Bert, who was looking at him sadly.
"Don't follow him", Bert said and stepped closer to Gerard, holding his hand gently in his own now.
"Wh-What why?", Gerard asked, out of breath and confused. "Something is wrong and I have to know what happened. Fuck, he looked so scared and sad and disappointed and-"
"Shh, hey, calm down", Bert interrupted and hugged the younger one. Gerard was breathing quickly and leaned into Berts comforting touch. "Don't run after him. That's all he wants from you", Bert whispered and kissed the top of Gerards head gently.
"N-No he... He wanted to talk to me about something important. I know that he did. I-I can feel it", Gerard explained and looked up and into Berts eyes. Bert kissed him.
"I'm not so sure about that. Mikey probably knows though. He has probably opened the door for him", he explained after the kiss, still holding Gerard close to him.
"Yeah, I let him in", came Mikeys voice from the door. "Sorry, for interrupting your, uh... Thing there", he mumbled and scratched his neck awkwardly. "Anyways, he wanted to know what's wrong because you wouldn't answer him. He was willing to apologize, if it had something to do with him, and the fact that he showed up all dressed up for you just proves how important that was for him", he explained softly, stepping into the room as he did so.
"I have to talk to him. I can't ignore him any longer", Gerard said, a tear falling down his face. Bert moved to wipe it away but Gerard was faster, using his sleeve and quickly wiping it away, before sniffling a little. "I drive to his place now. I want my best friend back", he exclaimed and looked at Bert, who had a look on his face that Gerard couldn't really make out.
"Let me drive you", he offered, but Gerard shook his head.
"No, I have to talk to him alone", he said and put his white converse on quickly. "I shouldn't have ignored him", he mumbled and got up, shooting a thankful smile at Mikey and running up the stairs and down the hallway, grabbing his keys and jumping out of the house.
Franks car was gone. Gerard sprinted to his own, got in and pulled out of the driveway quickly, slightly speeding on his drive to Frank's house. They didn't live far away from each other, but the little distance between their houses made Gerard feel like he would never make it to Franks house on time. On time? Before what happened? Nothing was going to happen hopefully. He still didn't want to waste a second. Frank wouldn't do anything stupid. Hopefully. Gerard knew that Frank could quickly overreact a little, but that scene at his house hadn't been Frank overreacting.
When Frank turned eleven years old, his father had given him a guitar. His very first one. Frank still has it. It's a completely white rebuild of a Fender Stratocaster. Frank always said it was his biggest treasure and he also treated it like that. Only he was allowed to play on it and only he was allowed to pick it up. Gerard knew that of course, and followed Franks little rules perfectly. But their friend Bob didn't know that. Bob and Frank had known each other since a long time as well, but they had never been as close as Gerard and Frank were. Bob had picked up Franks guitar, and it wouldn't even have been that bad or that much of a problem, if he wouldn't have fucking dropped it on top of the stairs. It slid down the whole staircase and now it has several scratches and some of the paint got off, revealing the normal wood underneath it. Frank was furious and in his rage he broke Bobs nose without thinking twice about it. They haven't spoken since.
