I hadn't known I'd fallen asleep until I felt the car lurch to a stop, but I was still too tired to move or to do anything so I closed my eyes and pretended to be asleep.
I felt Jermaine grab me and carry me toddler-style toward my front door, I heard the sound of my keys as he unlocked the door, shut it and then headed upstairs.
He slowly laid me down on the bed, removing my shoes and hairpin and clutch-purse. When my eyes opened a fraction, I saw he was ready to leave. But I didn't want to be alone tonight.
"Jermaine," I breathed into the pillow, cheerily doing cheerleader moves in my head when his head turned to face me. "Stay."
For a second it looked like he'd refuse, but then he pulled off his shoes and jacket. He pulled up the blankets and climbed in beside me.
I sighed of satisfaction.
