Joshua caught me in a hug once Michael and I arrived at the Mathis General hospital, I breathed in his Cartwright scent and pulled away.
"Okay, where's Mom?" I looked over his shoulder anxiously.
Joshua sighed. "In room 12."
I rushed to the room, pushing past people. A doctor in a blue jacket was leaning over the bed so I could barely see my mother.
"Excuse me?" I said in a soft yet anxious voice.
The doctor looked up and I recognized her as Dr. Garner.
"How is she?" I asked, blinking and trying to avoid looking at my mother in such a weak state.
Dr. Garner sighed. "Diana, I'm sorry," the woman put her hands on my shoulders. "It won't be long now."
My mouth dropped open, my eyes clouded with tears and then the doctor left the room.
I let my sight finally reach my mother and I gasped a pain lanced through my heart and a solitary tear dribbled from my eye.
Her skin was gray and she was wearing a gray scarf over her head, I hadn't paid enough attention to my mother to know that she was wearing a wig everytime I saw her.
I sat at the edge of her bed and reached over for her cold hand.
"Diana." She wheezed, opening her eyes.
I sniffled. "Mommy?"
She scrunched her eyebrows from either confusion or pain. "Where's Richard?"
The pain in my heart deepened. She deserved at least a bit of happiness before...
"He's on his way." I whispered.
"Diana, I'm sorry for everything." Her voice was weak.
I sighed, licking my lips. "It's okay, Mommy. I forgive you."
"There's something..." She broke off, spasming suddenly.
The monitor beside the hospital bed went off uncontrollably, and it took me a moment to realize what was happening...
