An hour earlier
The brilliance of the sun shining through the hotel windows awoke Michael, he rolled to the side, expecting the cold emptiness of the bed just like every other morning and then he remembered what happened last night.
And the bed wasn't cold, and Diana was lying right beside him, her hands clutching the duvet close to her body, she was everything he ever wanted life in that moment.
He thought about kissing her, but thought better of it and took off toward the bathroom. There, he took a quick shower. He pulled on his boxers, ready for his pants when his cell phone rang.
He went for it, picking it up. "Hello?"
"Get out of the room, go into the bathroom, Michael."
James Bartholomew.
Michael obeyed, heading into the bathroom without shutting the door and leaning against the small sink. "What do you want?"
"I want to know why you slept with Diana last night, I thought I made myself perfectly clear when you broke up."
Gosh, for the first time ever.
Michael hated this guy.
"Look, that was a mistake," Michael said honestly, leaning against the sink. He thought of last night, how good it felt to be with her. And then the guilt and shame he felt the next morning. "And I-"
"I know, I know. You feel horribly guilty for sleeping with her after you found out she was molested as a kid. I get it."
Michael blinked in surprise. "How did you know that?"
"It's in your voice." James chuckled. "You don't exactly sound happy to be in that hotel right now, so here, let me give you a way to get out of it."
Walk out the door? Michael thought snarkily.
"It'll be doing us both a favor," James sighed.
"I want you to kill Richard Tinsel. I've already installed the location on the GPS in your car so all you have to do is-"
"What? No, no, I can't." Michael replied. His heart beating faster than it had ever pumped before. Killing someone?
"Do you want something to happen to Diana? Cause I can-"
"Please, just..."
"Do it, Michael. And I'll leave you two alone."
Michael was silent for a while. "Okay, fine. I'll do it. Just don't go near her." Michael sighed as he hung up.
