Just a little

"You said you love me" he whimpered that day. I know what I said! Must you remind me of those fateful words?! I thought I was in love, I thought I could give myself to you...I thought my monsters would spare you this time. Just this time.

  You were so happy! Your eyes sparkled, you were the happiest man on Earth...or so you said. We danced, we kissed, we embraced each other all day long! Wasn't it fun? Do you remember our song?

  Days went by and my heart fluttered, we were surely made for one another! You hugged me and picked me up, you said I was a lovely princess...you couldn't see my inner mess.

  As it tends to happen one day it cracked. Crack. Crack. Crack. Everything shattered. The pieces falling to the ground and the charade vanished. You wept, you didn't know what was wrong...it was me! You didn't believe me, so I played along.

"You said you loved me" You cried that day, but how could I love you? My dark heart is a void that doesn't know anything about love. All of your tenderness was swallowed whole by my demons...so I let you go. Because maybe, just maybe, I cared. Just a little.
