Shai PoVRuth has been living at Theo's place for almost a week now. Theo changes when she's nearby, he's not fooling around like he uses to, or making his usual perverse jokes. Ruth doesn't let him be himself.
"Goodmorning! Goodmorning!" I sing when I wake up. I always do that. It makes my day get a better and positive start.
Most people when they wake up, are grumpy and want to sleep more, I just try to find the beauty and positive about waking up to another exciting day with new experiences to look forward to.
Theo's made fun of me a couple of times, I remind him of Effie Trinket from The Hunger Games and her "Exciting day. Exciting day".
We don't have to go to set today, so I just slip into yoga pants and a simple pink and grey striped tank top.
I dance through my apartment, feeling the positive energy rushing through my body. I make a cup of tea out of some herbs I bought a few days ago in the organic shop I found downtown.
As I sit down, reading my e-mails at a bar stool at the kitchen island, there's a knock on the door.
"Yes?"
The door open and a very happy looking Theo steps inside, he closes the door behind him, kicks off his shoes and walks to me to sit down in front of me.
"Morning," he says with a smirk.
"Morning," I say, curious about his sudden happiness. "Why the smirk?"
His smile turns into a guilty looking frown. "Is it bad...?"
"What is bad?" I ask him and take a sip of my tea.
"That I'm happy because Ruth is out with some friends the rest of the day?" he asks carefully.
I raise an eyebrow and look at him over my mug. "That's pretty bad"
He smiles guilty, "whoops."
I shake my head and take a sip of my tea.
What's going on between Theo and Ruth at the moment doesn't concern me, anyways I ask: "What's going on between you two?"
Theo shrugs and takes an apple from the fruit bowl. "I don't know. She's just extremely grumpy. Probably on her period"
I chuckle, "Theo, a girl doesn't have to be on her period to be grumpy."
Theo looks at me and takes a bite of his apple. "I know. I know."
We don't break our gaze, we just stare at each other.
"Theo..." I say after a long time, "seriously. What's going on between you?"
Theo sighs, "I don't know, Shai. It's like our relationship is no longer what it used to be. The sparkles are just gone, you know?"
I drink the last of my tea and stand up to put the mug into the dishwasher. "And what are you going to do about that?"
"I don't know" Theo says, I can feel his eyes on my back. "I just can't let go of the thought that we need to end the relationship before it gets too bad."
I ignore the smile trying to form on my lips. I'm such a bad person for thinking about Theo like that, there's no way he would like me back. He already got a pretty girlfriend whom he's been with for five years, I can't be the one to ruin that.
When I have control over myself again, I turn around and face Theo, he's looking at the table top.
"But how?" he says and looks up again. "It's not so easy after five years, you know? It's not just something you do and then move on."
