Theo PoV

The fact that Shai and I are no longer arguing, seems to make a burden lift from my shoulders.

I walk downstairs, humming a little, and meet Jacob and Jessica in the living room.

"Someone got their girl back?" Jacob says with a smirk. He must've noticed the huge smile plastered on my face.

"We never broke up," I furrow my eyebrows. "Some stuff just... Got in the way."

In the same second, Elliot runs into the room, "Mommy! Mommy!"

Jessica looks at her son, who makes wide eyes, "There's a spider in Lily's bed and she's really scared, you need to help her!"

I chuckle a little and walk into the kitchen as Jessica follows Elliot upstairs.

My dad's sitting in his usual chair drinking coffee, he always drinks coffee twice a day, never more, never less, a cup in the morning and a cup in the afternoon, this one must be the afternoon one.

"Hey, dad," I say and grab a granola bar and sit down in front of him.

He looks up from the newspaper, over the edge of his glasses and smiles, "Hi, Theo."

My dad stopped calling me Theodore years ago, now my mom's the only one calling me by that name, except Shai when she wants to tease me.

Speaking of Shai, my dad says: "How come you're so happy? You've been so sad the last days but now you're happy. How is that?"

I shrug with a smile and take a bite of the granola bar in my hand. My dad and I never have and never will be in the right father-and-son relationship that we will talk about girls and stuff like that together, that's what I have my siblings for.

"Hmm," my father mumbles and returns to his newspaper.

After I finish my granola bar, I decide to go for a walk. As I'm taking on my shoes, I feel a small hand on my back and I look up at Lily.

"Where are you going, uncle Theo?" She asks with big eyes.

I pick her up, "I'm just going for a walk, you wanna come with me?"

She lights up and nods, "Yes!"

"Go tell you mother, then," I instruct her with a smile, I look after her as she runs back into the living room.

A minute later, she returns close followed by Cookie, "Cookie wants to join!"

"Then we'll take Cookie with us," I agree, I scratch Cookie behind the ears which she really seems to enjoy.

Lily takes on her shoes all by herself, these last days, she has told me several times that she can do it by herself since she's a big girl now.

"I'm ready!" She looks up at me with big happy eyes, I open the front door and walk out after Lily and Cookie.

"I want to ride a horse, uncle Theo!" Lily says and stamps in the ground.

I pick her up, "Sweetie, look at the horses, they're way too big for you. You can't sit on them."

She pours her lower lip as she strokes my old horse, Prince, over his mane. He shakes his head and lets out a snort.

We're in the horse paddock because Lily wanted to see our two horses, it's been a long time since I was in here. I planned on taking Shai for a ride while she was here, but since she needed to leave so fast, we never did it.

Prince, is not really my horse, but the mare died short after his birth. Prince never learned to walk until we took him to several veterinary surgeons and they gave him lots of fancy stuff, when he was almost two years old, he started walking around.

Since my siblings didn't think he was funny because they couldn't ride him, they only cared about his sister Princess, yes, that's her name. It was Jessica and Claire who named them. I became the one to take care of Prince. Now, he can both run and walk, still a little unsteady, but he can do it.

I take the wooden box with all the necessities, hand Lily a currycomb and show her how to curry the horse.

When it starts to get a little dark, I walk back to the house with Lily and Cookie.

"Uncle Theo?" Lily says in her adorable voice. "Do you know what I want for Christmas?"

I make big eyes, "what do you want?"

She wraps her tiny arms around my neck, "I want a pony!"

I chuckle a little, "but didn't you say the other day that you want a turtle?"

She sighs, "I want a turtle and a pony!"

I nod, "That's awesome!"

"Will you buy me a pony for Christmas?"

I smile and look down at her, I don't know what to say, I sure won't buy her a pony without her moms agreement, and I know her mother too well to know that she absolutely won't allow a pony in her house. But I can't say no either, I can't break the little girls heart, I can't do that. "Sure," I say but laugh a little. "But only if your mother agrees with me."

Lily lights up like a Christmas tree and starts talking about, what she will do with her new horse once she gets it.

As we walk on the path to the house, I see a familiar car parked in the driveway, I can't think of where I've seen the car before, until I see her standing in the doorway talking with my mother who's wearing a very sour look.

Ruth.
