My mom's telling some of her very bad jokes to my brother, Jacob, as I enter the kitchen to help them do the dishes. Shai runs upstairs to take a shower.

Jacob lets out a short laugh. "That was pretty bad, mum. Don't you have another one?"

I grab a dishtowel and start to dry a frying pan. My mom thinks for a second.

"Okay... Why couldn't Santa get up from his bed on Christmas?"

Jacob shrugs with a furrowing face. "Because he had some hoe lying by his side, I don't know."

I chuckles as my mom hit his shoulder with a dishtowel. "Because the chimneys made him Claus-trophobic" she says in a 'duh' voice.

Jacob raises his eyebrows, "of course"

I laugh and shake my head. "I got one... Be prepared"

I stretch my arms and fingers, "What is colorful and smart at the same time?"

Jacob gives me a strange look, I raise my eyebrows.

"A brainbow!" I say amazed. Miles once told me this one while we were both pretty drunk, we found it extremely funny at that time.

There's quiet for a few seconds before Jacob bursts out laughing. Like, a real laughter where he bends down and rests his hands on his knees.

I start to laugh as well but our mother looks at us in disgust. She shakes her head at us and returns to the dishes.

"That. Was so. Fucking. Bad" Jacob manages say between his laughter.

"I know right?!" I ask him still laughing a little. "Finally somebody who understand my sense of humor"

Jacob stands up and stops laughing, "I don't really understand it, brother. It's just so bad that it's funny."

I shrug and mumble something about my jokes are always very good.

When my mom begins to wash the biggest one of the saucepans, Jacob sneaks out of the kitchen with a grin on his face. My mom rolls her eyes after him and turns to me. "Now when your brother's gone... We should probably take the mother and son talk."

I clench my teeth, "uh-oh"

"Do you love Shailene?"

I look at my mom surprised, "of course I do."

My mom nods, "that's good"

"Mom, what is this about?"

My mom lays down her dishtowel and looks up at me, already when I was thirteen I was taller than her. "I'll just be sure that you love her for real and won't break her heart. I really like her, Theodore. She's the perfect girl for you."

I furrow my eyebrows still not quite knowing where she's going with this.

"I think that you should marry her someday, Theodore" my mom says seriously.

I let out a short laugh, "Mom... We've only been together for a two weeks."

"But can't you see it yourself? Everyone else can see it," she pokes my chest with a finger. "You two have a connection so unique that it's weird you didn't get lost in each other from day one."

Well, actually we did ,but I'm not going to tell her that.

"I believe," my mom continues.,"that you two have a future together. Haven't you even thought of that?"

I have thought of that. I can imagine Shai and I getting married one day, maybe having a little army of kids running around. After I met Shai, I fell so deeply in love with her that I've been thinking that maybe I haven't been in love for real before, not even with Ruth, because it feels so different, so much better from every other relationship I've had.

There sure is something special about Shai. We were meant for each other, our lips fit perfectly together, our bodies fit perfectly together.

"I have..." I tell her.

"Good," my mom removes her finger from my chest. "Then get me some more grandkids soon, will you please?"

I laugh shortly, "Was that really what this was about? You wanting more grandkids."

My mom looks strictly at me, "you go get that girl pregnant, Theodore. I don't care if it happens right now or in a month. Just do it someday. And also propose, I want her in my family."

I laugh and shake my head at her. My mom's never found it awkward talking about things like that around anyone, people who don't know her, must think she's a little weird.

When my mom finally lets me go from her very important mother-to-son talk and the dishes, I walk upstairs to check on Shai.

She's laying on her bed with her legs dangling from the edge, she sits up on resting on her elbows when I close the door behind me.

Since she's holding her phone to her ear, I just smile and pull of my black t-shirt to sit down by her side.

"Yeah..." She says and lay a hand on my thigh. "Sure... Yes, of course, man. I will do that... Yeah, see you soon. Bye"

She sighs and throws her phone on the bed, "That was Robert"

I look at her surprised, why did Robert, the director of Insurgent, call her late at night?

"What's up?"

Shai looks up at me, "he wants me for a few reshoots at Thursday. I need to go back to Atlanta for a few days"

I wrap my arm around her and kiss the top of her head. "I'll go with you"

"No. Theo, you stay here with your family"

"But..." I indeed don't want my girlfriend to travel alone across the world.

She lays a finger on my lip, "I'm a big girl, I can do things by myself."

"Baby... Who'll protect you from all the creeps out there then? And what about the flight? I'll not let you fly alone from London to Atlanta, that's eight hours. And you never know who'll sit by your side, I don't want any creep to come near my girlfriend."

She giggles a little and strokes my lip with a finger. "Theo, you stay here with your family. Zoë and Miles will be there too, I won't be all on my own."

"But..." I start, she cuts me off again.

"You can come when we're done with the reshoots, then you and I will go to Los Angeles and visit my mom and brother. Okay?"

I hesitate. I know that Shai's a big girl, she can handle a lot of things by herself. But I don't want to be away from her for days, I don't think I'm able to do anything without her.

"Are you sure?" I ask her silent pulling a stray hair behind her ear. She dyed it dark again after Insurgent was done, I guess she needs to get it blonde again now.

She nods with a small smile, "Positive."

I kiss her lips once, "Can I be the one driving you to the airport then?"

"Of course, baby," She kisses me back and smile against my lips.

I grab her hips and push her onto the bed, I swing my legs over hers and sit with my knees on each side of her waist, holding her hands in mine over her head. "Thursday you said?" I ask silent. "We still have two days left"

"For what?" Shai asks curious.

I lean down and crash our lips together, "this"

Shai grins against my mouth and turns us around so she's the one on top.

I slip my hands under the hem of her shirt and feel her warm skin against mine. It's going to be some long days when she's gone.
