I set Lily on the ground and she runs inside with Cookie after her.

I cross my arms over my chest and lean against the doorframe, raising an eyebrow at Ruth. "What are you doing here?"

My mom clears her throat as she walks back inside leaving me alone with my ex-girlfriend.

Ruth sighs, "I came here to visit my boyfriend, obviously"

I feel the anger grow in my tummy, "Ruth, we're not together anymore, you remember?"

Ruth plants a kiss on my lips but I push her away, "stop that, right now!" I say and point a finger at her. "We're not together"

She snorts. Bitch. "Since when?"

I roll my eyes, "Atlanta, my apartment, three weeks ago. Does it ring a bell or is your skull too thick to remember a thing?"

That probably came out a little too strict. But I seriously need her to get out of my life forever, right now, or else I don't know what I'll do.

Ruth presses her lips together, crosses her arms over her chest and squints her eyes. "Oh yeah, it was because of the gross Shailene girl across the hall, right? The one with the short hair, sat in a very strange hairdo. It really isn't what a girl should do with her hair. Really ugly if you ask me."

I clench my fists and feel my breath go faster and heavier, I must struggle not to slap her face.

"She's not even close to be pretty, but well, it's your choice. But really, Theodore? How can you leave me," she points at herself. "And take her instead, I mean--"

The next I know, is me slamming her against the wall, holding her shoulders in a bone breaking grip. Our faces only inches from each others, "if you ever, and I mean ever, say anything bad about Shailene again. We will have a serious problem, you understand?!" I say into her head.

I want to make it clear: How much I hate her, how much I want her out of my life.

As she doesn't answer, I press her tighter against the wall.

"Theodore!" My mom's voice sounds from inside the house.

I loosen my grip a little and Ruth raises her eyebrows, "did you hear me?!" I shout.

Ruth wraps herself out of my iron grip and straightens her clothes, "sure thing, Theodore"

She turns to walk to her car, just before she gets in it, she turns around with a gaze that could kill. Then, she does something I never thought she would do, not even her; she spits on the ground and then looks up at me with a smirk before stepping into her car.

I clench my fists and storm against her, before I can take step number two, a hand grabs my arm and pulls me back with force, my mother.

I rush past her and into the living room, not even minding taking my shoes off.

In the living room, I sit down on the couch and bury my head in my hands. I hear my mother stand in front of me.

"Theodore..." She says sharply. "I don't think it was necessary almost strangle her against a wall, do you?"

I look up from my hands and stand up, "Mom... I don't care what people say about me, but if they ever say something bad about my family, I can tell you I'll strangle them without even hesitating."

My mom shakes her head and place both her hands on my shoulders, "I know you don't like her, and I don't like her either. But really?"

I take a deep breath and begin to tell her about what Ruth said, what she said about Shai and how she spit on the ground before leaving.

For every sentence, her eyes seems to squint more and more, and she's looking more and more angry.

After I finish, I snap my mouth together and cross my arms over my chest, "don't say she didn't deserve it."

My mother opens her mouth to say something, but closes it again. After a while, she opens up again, "You did the right thing, son"

With that, she walks off to the kitchen, leaving me with a winning grin spread on my face.

I sit back down again, and pull my phone out from my pocket to check it for missing calls.

There's one missing call from my friend Will, and two unread messages. One is from Ruth, I delete it without even looking at it.

The other one's from Shai:

I miss you :( I wish you were here...

I answer her within seconds:

Me too, baby. I just had a great meeting with Ruth, looks like I didn't get rid of her as easy as I thought... See you in a few days, sweetie. I can't wait to see you again.

I lay my phone on the coffee table and bury my head in my hands. After a few minutes, I get up and storm upstairs.

I can't take this distance anymore, I need to see her. Now.
