CHAPTER 3 (PART 1): SOCCER MAKES YOU GO CRAZY
29 DAYS BEFORE JULY 13
"MOM I TOLD you I'm okay." I assured my mom. Kausap ko siya ngayon sa phone kasi nalaman niya yung nangyari sa school five days ago. Sabi ko sakanya huwag niya akong i-contact kapag hindi naman importante, ang mahal kaya ng international call!
"I'm just worried, sweetie." I heard her answer. I can't help but smile. "Alright baby, I'll end the call okay? Call me if anything happens. I love you."
"I love you too, mom."
I tossed my phone towards the passenger seat of my car, returning my right hand to the wheel. I was on my way to school when my mom called. For sure ay si Cafe ang nagsabi sakanya tungkol sa nangyari saakin since Cafe was the only person who knew, other than Parcival of course.
I didn't tell the school or any local authorities.
Wala rin naman silang gagawin. Tulad ng dati, wala naman silang ginawa nung nalaman nila ang ginagawa ng dad ko.
I felt my hands tighten their hold against the steering wheel.
Fuck the police. Fuck my dad.
I shook my head, trying to get rid of the memories.
After parking, I went out of my car and wore my sunglasses. Hindi naman masyado malakas ang sinag ng araw, pero hindi naman 'yun ang rason kung bakit ako nag salamin. Rather, it is to block out any eyesore I'll be encountering today.
I made my way towards the school and noticed some people looking at me.
Nothing new.
Napatigil ako nang may biglang bumangga saakin.
I heard her gasp. I turned my attention to her and saw her eyes almost bulging out of their sockets.
She's that scared of me?
"S-sorry, Lucy." She stammered. "Hindi kita nakita, sorry talaga."
Binaba ko ng kaunti ang sunglasses ko para makita niya ang mata ko at para mas makita ko rin siya. I smiled. Confusion was plastered on her face, until it turned pale when I altered my smile to a scowl.
"You think sorry cuts it?" I snapped, placing my sunglasses above my head.
Napailing siya habang unti-unting dumaloy ang takot sa mukha niya.
I took a step closer to her. "Listen here little sucker, I knew from the moment that I left my car, some bitch was going to ruin my day, but I didn't know that it was this early. Do you want me to slit your―" hindi ko natapos ang sasabihin ko nang may maramdaman akong humila saakin papunta sa likod niya.
