CHAPTER 17: SEEKING FOR ANSWERS
THREE DAYS LATER, we were notified that the results of our drug test were finally available. Kami ni Cafe ang bumalik sa drug testing center para kunin ang results dahil may quiz daw sina Parci at Dash and they told us that they can't afford to miss that quiz since malaking percentage iyon sa grades nila. Well, Parci did, si Dash wala namang pakialam sa grades niya but pinagalitan siya ni Parci kaya napilitan siyang magstay for the quiz.
Typical.
Pabalik na kami ni Cafe sa university at sakto namang nag-text si Dash na tapos na ang quiz nila kaya napagusapan naming magkita sa tambayan namin sa likod ng school. When Cafe and I arrived there, nandoon na ang dalawang itlog na nag-iintay.
"Have you opened it yet?" Tanong ni Dash habang minamataan ang sealed envelope na hawak ko.
"Idiot. Kita mong naka-seal pa." I retorted.
"Hand it over." Sabi ni Parci and I did as told. Siya na ang nag-bukas nun kaya dali-dali kaming sumilip ngunit wala akong naintindihan sa mga nakalagay. Panay medical at scientific terms ang mga nakalagay doon.
"Rohypnol?" Pag-basa ni Dash doon. "Aren't those roofies?"
Okay. That kind of rings a bell but I'm not sure where I heard it.
Parci slightly squinted his eyes and caressed his jaw. "Hmm, explains why you both don't remember what happened the night of the party."
I waved my hand, "can you explain this.. roofie thing?"
Parci leaned in his seat and stared at us with a serious look on his face. "Rohypnol, more known as roofies, forget-me-pill, and R-2, falls under a drug class called benzodiazepine. These are commonly used by people who intend to harm their dates--which is why some people refer to it as 'date-rape drugs'."
Cafe's eyes widened. "Then shouldn't it be illegal?"
Parci nodded, "yes, it is illegal in the country so whoever got a hold of this must be someone who knows someone underground."
"Underground?" Taka kong tanong.
"Yeah. Probably from deep web or dark web." Wika ni Parci.
"Okay so tell us more about the drugs." I commanded. "Bakit hindi kami nakakaalala?"
"It's because Rohypnol causes partial amnesia. It means that whoever consumes the drug will be unable to remember certain events that they experience as long as they're under the influence of the drug." Parci answered. "Rohypnol takes effect 15 to 20 minutes after administration and its effect reaches its peak only within a couple of hours after it is ingested. It may last for around 8 to 12 hours, depending on the quantity of the drug consumed. This 'amnesic' effect is more likely to occur when the drug is consumed with alcohol."
