Finding myself back in the town I spent majority of my life was strange. Much too used to what London had to offer, settling back into the old ways of life was always tricky. Saying that, it hasn't been that long since my last visit. I spent the whole of June and July at home before going back to London. It was mainly because I needed the money and so the last month of summer was spent behind the bar.

Now, getting the train home in the bitter cold, I was only going to be there for about a week and a half. Two, if the tickets will be expensive for my planned return. Regardless, my presence back in my home town was expected by not only family but also by my dear old best friend, Katherine Sherlock. Between her excitement and my mother's, it was difficult not to grin like a crazy person when I stepped inside the warm house where a mixture of baked goods and candles welcomed me before any human managed to do so.

My mother was in tears when she saw me which only gain a soft chuckle from me. Even though she saw me only months ago and she called me a few times more than someone my age should admit, I was, after all, her youngest child. Even if I denied, she did give me the special treatment though that wasn't always the worst thing in the world. Bet my siblings would claim it never was.

Taking my bag up to my room, I quickly went to the toilet and got changed into some sweats. Being at home was actually quite nice but so was living alone. Nevertheless, once I made it downstairs, mum called me into the kitchen and fed me like someone had been starving me since the summer. Not against the home-cooked mummy meal, I gulped everything down as she sat across from me and entertained me in a long and detailed conversation about what has happened since we last saw each other in person. Even though she knew everything because we spoke on the phone multiple times. Suppose she needed to hear it once more to refresh her memory.

Once she seemed to retrieve all that she needed to know, I proceeded to ask about my siblings' whereabouts. Mother, of course, with reasonably smaller, yet still apparent light in her eyes, began to ramble on about how my sister would get here later today and my brother in the morning. The answer did not surprise me with my brother always having been someone to turn up at the last minute. Not too long after that, as she made me put my plates in the dishwasher, she told me it was a shame that Nadine would not be joining us for this Christmas either. I nodded along, acting as though it saddened me when in fact, I couldn't have thought of anything worse to happen. Unlike my sister and brother, I was certainly not someone who enjoyed bringing people home. Personally, I couldn't have thought of anything worse. Yet time and time again, mother tried.

After she fed me and made me a tea, I took a comfortable little seat on the sofa in the living room. Mum said she had some emails and whatnot to take care of with the business going a little crazy over the holiday period and so I entertained myself with a movie that played on the TV. Dad was still at work and Katherine was not answering. That left me on my own with a full belly.
