Chapter 17

We didn't win at the first set. As soon as we headed to the second set, Coach called me to be the starting setter once again.

I was excited to play again and put all my observations that I observed on the Stuartz team to help my team on winning this set.

We are the first one to do the service. We did the same rotation. Captain Mel would be the first one to serve and she directly aimed it to one the open spiker of Stuartz Team.

"Get ready!" sigaw ko at nagready kami para sa block. Hindi maganda ang pagkakareceive ng Stuartz kaya naman alam namin na sa Open Sliker nito ibibigay yung bola.

We jump as high as we can to block that hit from one of their open spikers. They know that blocking is one of our weakness but with a right timing, kaya naming makipagsabayan.

"A shutdown from Venusville Blockers!" ani ng isang commentator.

"I think that was the first block point of Venusville in this match. Let's see if they can sustain it and help them to regain their rhythm back." another commentator said.

"Also, will Jillian Krae regain her confidence now despite Stuartz shutting her down on the first set?"

"Let's see partner, we all know that Jillian is a brilliant setter. I know she's up to something new now."

The game resumed and Mel is still the one serving. She's really doing a great job from breaking Stuartz offensive form because of her service. Stuartz having a hard time receiving those serves because Mel targetting those difficult corners, not just to their open spikers in front.

Dahil doon ay madali naming nababasa ang mga galaw nila at kung hindi naman namin sila naba-block ay nag-error sila sa kanilang mga atake.

"Good job, Captain!" sabi ko kay Mel matapos magtawag ng isang early timeout ang Stuartz dahil naka-limang diretsong puntos na kami at sila ay wala pa. Lahat ng puntos na yun ay galing sa blocking at error points.

"Thanks." tipid na sabi nito at nakinig na kaming pareho sa iba pang mga bilin ni coach.

*prrrrrrttt!!*

Nagserve na ulit si Mel at mukhang nakapag-adjust na agad ang Stuartz kaya naman maganda ang naging receive nila at diretsong set ito sa kanilang middle blocker na pumuntos mula sa isang running spike.

Sadyang matatangkad ang kanilang mga middle dahil kahit ready kami sa pagblock ay sa ibabaw pa rin ng aming mga kamay dumadaan ang bola. Sa ganoong sitwasyon, ang aming mga defenders nalang sa likod ang maaasahan namin.

Stuartz na ang magse-serve ulit kaya naman nagready na ang mga kasama ko para magreceive.

Isang short serve ang ginawa nito at direkta agad iyon kay Trixy. Dahil sa pagkabigla ay hindi nito masiyadong naitaas ang bola at naipasa sa akin kaya naman mabilis kong hinabol iyon at lumuhod para iset iyon kay Trixy na tumakbo na din para sa kaniyang running spike.

Buong pwersa akong nag-toss para maiset kay Trixy ang bola kaya naman nang makaangat ito ay saktong papadating na ang bola at inispike niya agad ito.

"What a spike! What a set! Wow!" manghang sinabi ng isa sa mga commentators.

"Wow! Just like what I've said earlier, Jillian Krae is really up to something new. We all know that she's the master of fast sets but what she sid earlier is way more faster that her usual fast sets. What a magnificent play coming from her!" Ito naman ang papuri ng isang commentator.

Hiyawan naman ang mga audience na naroroon sa loob ng Arena at nanonood sa amin. Sobrang tuwa naman ng mga teammates ko at naggroup hug kaming anim sa loob. I hope that play would boost up our confidence on this game.

Ako na ang magse-serve. I know we are way far from the finish line but I want to take advantage of this situation that's why I will used my other kind of service. It's not a something new to other viewers who didn't know me, but to those teams who scouted my plays, this is new to them.

I haven't use my left arm for so long even though I am a lefty. Only Lorraine knew it. Sa kaniya ko ginagamit ang left handed serve ko para mas matrain ko siya noon sa receiving.

Before, I've only used my left hand when it comes to a top spin serve, but ever since Lorraine left, I've learned this left hand jump serve way more early than the time I've learned the right hand jump serve which I'm currently using now.

But today, I want them to be shocked and used my other weapon when it comes to serving.

I tossed the ball up high using my right hand and hit it strongky using my left hand and I directly targeted the zone 5!

No one expecting that serve from me that's why they didn't receive it and it's an automatic point from us!

"What a serve!"

"Wow! We didn't know that Jillian is also a left handed person. The way she hits the ball using her left hands is way more powerful that her right hand. That was insane!"

Everyone was shocked by that time I've used my left hand to the a jump serve. It's no big deal but I hope that will helps us to boost our confidence for the next play we're going.

Yeah, we lose the first set but this game is just starting. Mas ginanahan nga ang mga kateammates ko dahil doon. Our group cheer tirns to be more louder now than before, also our supporters came alive once again and keep on cheering us from time to time.

I continued to serve and so far, I've manage to get a three straight aces. At sa lahat ng iyon, wala ni isang players ng Stuartz ang nagtangkang magreceive sa aking mga serves.

"Girls! Just one good receive! Stop her from doing a momentum in the service line!" sigaw nung coach ng Stuartz sa kaniyang mga players.

"Keep it up! Jill!" Milly cheered from the other side.

Thenscore is now 9-1 in favor of us. Naghanda na ulit ako para magserve. Chineck ko muna yung formations ng Stuartz Team bago ako nagready para mag-serve.

Napansin kong halos lahat sila ay pumalikod bilang paghanda sa pagreceive ng isang malakas na serve pero yun ang akala nila. I slowed down the pace of my serve and it drop just after it cross the net. Dahil malayo sila sa harap kung saan nagland yung bola ay hindi nila agad ito nakuha kaya naman another ace na naman para sa amin.

"I think this is the first time, Stuartz are being down by 9 points, all of their matches this, they were the first one to get a technical timeout but this set is a first time for them not to get the teachnical timeout and their score is just a single point."

"That's right partner. Venusville really is something that all of their opponents should watch out for. The addition of Jillian Krae really helps the team alot."

"She's not the best server and best setter in her highschool years for nothing."

I made a total of 8 aces in a row before it stops because of my lil error. Pero kahit ganun ay lamang pa rin kami ng 11 points. Ang kailangan nalang ay alagaan ang lamang naming ito.

At oarang sumang-ayon naman ang sitwasyon sa amin dahil nagka-service error ang Stuartz. Si Trixy na ang magse-serve habang si Leigh na ang nasa harap ngayon.

Madali namang nareceive ng Stuartz ang service nito at dahil doon ay instant puntos agad sa kanila.

Nagpatuloy ang laban at dahil sa pag-oobserve ko kanina ay nakaya ko na din makipagsabayan sa mga tall blockers ng Stuartz. Iniba ko ang pace ng mga sets ko. Ininform ko na din ang mga teammates ko na magbibigay ako ng sign sa kanila kung anong tempo ang gagawin ko. At dahil dun ay nakuha namin ang second set sa score na 25-10.
