*Hawks's POV*
I suddenly snapped out of my thoughts by a vibration in my pocket. I had thought that I had dropped it in the alley, but I guess it hadn't.
Fishing it out of my pocket while drying my face, I looked at the caller ID. The word "Endeavor" was flashing on the screen. I let out a groan, cutting myself off as I answered.
"Yeah?"
"Where are you? There are some villains downtown at that ice cream place, I need you here. Now." I rolled my eyes. Why couldn't I just sit here and wait for my flowers to kill me?
"Aight, you mean the placed owned by that Aruna guy?"
"Yes, get here. Quick." I nodded, not caring that he couldn't see me before hanging up. Standing up, I stretched out my wings and limbs. Spreading my wings, I started to take off and took a quick look around. I actually knew where I was.
While flying through the air, I tried to clear my mind. I couldn't be distracted by something else. People's lives could be on the line.
It took me maybe five minutes in total to get to the ice cream place. Not like I was extremely far from it in the first place. However, the closer I got, the more I smelt something. Smoke. Of course, that would make sense. Endeavor was there.
Why exactly did the number one hero need to call the number two to take care of a villain at an ice cream parlor? Whatever, I'll help.
I perched a top of the parlor, overlooking the street. It was worse than just some random villain. No, there was fire everywhere. A bright blue illuminating the street burning whatever was in it's path. I felt a wave of fear wash over me, but something else as well. The flowers were starting to push their way up my throat despite my efforts to keep them in my lungs.
I ripped my eyes away and started to cough again, spitting the petals into a pile on the roof. Still not a full flower, so I'm not completely screwed. The stench of smoke tore into my lungs, causing my cough to worsen, but it didn't faze me too much.
Looking back to the ground, I still couldn't see much, but I could tell that the fire wasn't completely out of control. No, it was staying almost exactly where I guessed it started. It was mostly in the middle of the street, leaving the sidewalk alone.
Where were they? Where was Endeavor?
I sent out a few feathers while taking off, sending them away so I could try and cover more ground.
As I flew around the scene, I felt a vibration through one of my feathers. Heading that way, a sudden heat rushed over me and pain stabbed at me. I was fine, it was just a feather. I would be fine. I continued to fly that way until another vibration ran through a different feather before it suddenly stopped.
Without a second thought, I dashed to the area, eyes wide. It was Dabi, which wasn't really a surprise. He was with a girl, about sixteen seventeen by the looks of it. She was short with blonde hair pulled into buns on the sides of her head. A knife was held in her hand.
Endeavor was on the other side of the street, fuming. I could hear that Dabi was yelling something at him, but I couldn't really hear it. Slowly, I got closer, but was careful as to not attract attention.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know taking a kid to get ice cream was a crime." He yelled snarkily. I'm guessing the "kid," he was talking about was the girl. Endeavor looked just about ready to snap, his eyes locked on the two before him. He was going to use his fire, but...
What about the girl? What if she's just a bystander? He could be about to hurt an innocent girl. I watched as Endeavor shot a blast of fire at them, but it seemed to happen in slow motion as my training took over.
I sent myself forward as fast as I could, grabbing the girl and pulling her along with me to the wall. As I did, I felt Endeavor's fire scorch my back. However, the girl seemed fine, so it was alright.
"Step away from her." I heard someone say from behind me. Dabi sounded serious, way more so than when it was me and him in the alley. I turned to him, staring back into his icy glare.
"Didja hear me Bird-Brain? I said get away from her!" He shouted, holding his hand up towards me. In response, Endeavor got ready to attack as well. Dabi looked over to him before snorting.
"Go ahead, I'm used to it."
His words seemed to shake Endeavor. His eyes sided and his entire demeanor seemed to change.
Suddenly, I felt someone grab my shoulders and pull me backwards, immediately followed with a blade pressed against my neck. It was the girl. When I looked back to her, she gave me an unsettling smile before adding a bit of pressure.
"Man, I've always wanted to have wings. How fun would it be to have them, even if they were useless? It would be so much fun, wouldn't it?" The girl giggled, talking especially to me. "How fun is it? Huh?"
Dabi glanced over from Endeavor to me, locking his eyes on me. He started to walk over to the two of us, and Endeavor didn't move a muscle.
To be honest, I was terrified. Not only was the girl who I had tried to save holding me back, but even if I got away from her and Dabi, I couldn't fly away. My wings were burnt too bad.
"Come on Crazy, let him go. We'll get ice cream a different time, promise." He whispered to the girl. I heard her huff before the knife was removed. I was about to get away from them, but then I was pushed against the wall. My back complained about the pain and my wings jerked open slightly instead of filed to my back.
"Don't you dare follow us, got it?" He didn't wait for an answer before letting me go and walking away with the girl. I immediately started to bring my scattered feathers back, but then I noticed something.
One of the intact ones was unable to come back.
