Chapter 21

~Mae's POV~

"But where could he be this whole time though?" I asked, panicking.

I started pacing back and forth in my room as the thoughts of my head began running in my mind.

"Well, maybe you shouldn't ask me that," Adrian sarcastically replied. "Maybe you should ask your dad."

"Only god knows what he'll do to me if I asked him," I honestly responded.

About 10 minutes ago, when I answered the phone call, it was a call from my dad's manager at the office. He asked me where my dad was and I simply replied with "at work". But the manager doesn't think that. He said that my dad hasn't been working since Tuesday. He hasn't gone to work for 3 days straight including today.

Where would he go these past few days? And his manager said that if he didn't go to work next 2 days, he'll get fired. I don't want him to get fired. What could he have been doing if his not at work? Does mom know about this?

I heard the doorbell rang which made me bring back to reality. Adrian and I hurried down the stairs. I looked at the window beside the door and open it. On the other side of the door was my stupid dad.

"Where have you been?" I asked, sounding like a mother.

"At work," he simply replied as he walked inside the house.

"Umm no, I don't think so," I responded as I followed him to the kitchen. "The manager at the office called me a few minutes ago and told me that you haven't gone to work since Tuesday. And he said that if you didn't go to work tomorrow, you can get fired."

"I don't care if I got fired," he replies. "We're rich anyways."

I sighed in disbelieve while I rolled my eyes and out to the kitchen.

"Whatever. Don't tell me I didn't warn you!"

Adrian and I made our way up back to my room and continued watching the movie that he put on. But I'm still wondering where Matt could've been doing tonight.

~Matt's POV~

I stayed at the sidewalk where Mae and I last talked. I didn't move. I didn't do anything. I was just realizing that I'm the stupidest person alive.

After Mae called me, I was debating if I should go home or not. If I went back home, she's probably not even going to talk to me and probably not even going to listen to my explanation. But if I stayed here, she's probably going to get madder and more worried about me and I don't want that happening.

Whatever, I'm going back. I parked on their driveway and saw Mae's dad's vehicle. This was just great. I got out of the truck and think of a way to get inside without her dad noticing me. I looked up to where her room was and beside her porch was a tree. Hmmm.

I climbed up to the tree and up to Mae's porch. As I put my feet on her porch, I knocked on her door. I waited for a few seconds until I hear the knob turn. I turned myself around to see Adrian.

"Oh you're here," I sarcastically said.

"Well, hi to you too," he responded. "Mae's asleep, oh wait you don't care."

I ignored his commentary as he opens the door wider for me to go in and locks the door. He began whisper shouting at me about me hurting Mae. I didn't listen to what he said. I know it was a mistake and I'll do anything for her to forgive me. We exchange goodbyes' and he left the room.

I lied myself on her bed beside her. Her body was facing me and I couldn't help thinking that I'm so lucky to have her in my life. Then BAM I made a huge mistake. She looked so peaceful and beautiful while she sleeps but yet looking so upset. I pulled the bed covers from her waist and up to her shoulders. I wrapped my arms around her and gently kiss her lips. Her head twitched and she moved closer to me. I rested my back on the mattress of the bed as she rested her head and her hand on my chest while my arm was around her.

This was all I need this whole time. I wish we could stay like this- sweet, happy, no problems at all, every single day. But someone has to ruin another person's happiness. And that someone would be me.
