Dillion Scott || Trust me"You're Alpha's mate" Ben stated as he stepped in the apartment after asking on the wellbeing of the kid. With him, he had my duffle bag of clothes from my car that I had abandoned. The kid had shifted back into his human form though still passed out, which is a good thing as he still has the strength, Ben had so generously brought over a hoodie and some underwear for the boy, which I carefully put on.
I looked at him with a raised eyebrow, since it wasn't a question but a statement. "There is no other explanation. The overprotectiveness; you challenge him as if you know he wont fight back, at least not in a way that would jeopardize your life. The way you talk to and about Alpha; how Beta treats you." Ben explained as he sat down on one of the arm chairs gesturing to the room "You are staying in the Beta's apartment. No one gets treated the way you have." Ben added.
"You really thought about this." I said with a chuckle as I walked to the kitchen, pouring a glass of water for both us. If you give it a second thought then its not that hard to put two and two together. I'm sure that there are other people in the pack that have drawn the same conclusion but its all just rumours at this point. "I wouldn't think many would get away with breaking the Alpha's mate's leg." I mused.
"What can I say, Alpha got a pretty cool mate" Ben said with a shrug, thanking me for the glass. Conversation drifted to different topics, ranging from family to the differences and similarities between packs. I learnt that Ben and his mate got married last year and that they have eleven year old twins, one girl and one boy which explained how he got the children's clothing.
The pack doctor came in half way through and checked the kid over which mostly stated the obvious, That he was emaciated, malnourished and dehydrated. The burns were silver related and the scaring is from him being weak for so long, his wolf didn't have the power or energy to heal him completely, as there were probably bigger things to worry about. Thankfully the Doc was pretty confident as the boy get back to full health the scars will slowly fade and heal.
What surprised me was that the doc estimated that the boy was in his late teens, as he had his wisdom teeth. I knew he was at least twelve as pups usually have their first shift at twelve and it takes around four years before they are fully grown wolves. That means what ever conditions he has been living in, has stunted his and his wolf's growth.
"Fucken hell, this kid has really had no luck" Ben mumbled as the pack doctor packed away his things. Hopefully with the blood sample the Doctor took, It could shed some light on if he has Sallow blood. I shook my head in slight disbelief, not wanting to begin to imagine the shit he had to go through. I carefully combed my fingers through his black curls.
Ben stuck around for another hour before he was summons back home by his mate, I thanked him for his help, "Ill come by tomorrow with some more clothes for the little guy" Ben said running his hand through the boy's messy curls. "What are you going to do if alpha rejects him?" Ben asked as he stepped out the door.
I sighed glancing back, hopefully with some proof that the boy is of sallow blood, we wont have that problem. "I'll get my brother to take him" I said simply, knowing I can pull a few strings and get the pup into the pack.
I don't know when I fell asleep but a thump of a body falling over and the pained yelp was enough for me to be wide awake jumping out of my seat, groaning as the room spun slightly. I glanced around for the boy who was now hiding, though I know he hasn't gone out as the doors are locked and I could hear his racing heartbeat.
"My name is Dillion, I'm the wolf from this afternoon, remember?" I said softly, walking towards the kitchen, following the sound of his heartbeat. "I know you are terrified and every fibre of your body is telling you to run, that no one can be trusted." I said, figuring out where he was before turning back to the couch. "Cause people hurt you, they broke every ounce of trust you had." I said sitting down in my chair again, figuring it will be less traumatic if he comes to me then if I try and go to him.
"I know this is asking a lot of you right now, but will you find it deep with in your heart, to trust me just for a second." I said softly keeping my attention away from the kitchen. "you take as long as you need and when you feel comfortable could you do it again for two seconds, until you feel brave enough to join me, I have water and some fresh fruits all for you." I said softly.
I sat in that chair unmoving, dozing off to sleep every so often but it was never for long as I waited. When the sun was once again rising, I noted that his heart rate slowed right down which made me think he had fallen asleep. I turned in my seat surprised that he had moved, he was now only two meters from where I was seated, curled up asleep. I smiled sadly at the boy, standing up carefully grabbing a blanket and walking over to him. Gently draping it over his frail frame, before grabbing an apple and a banana and placing it next to him before going back to my seat.
I know time was now against me as the sun rose, there are to many members of the pack that saw me bring the pup in and I doubt Keenan will keep it from Elias much longer if he hasn't told him already. I stiffened when I heard a gasp and a bit of shuffling. I'm hoping that this was the last little stretch till he trusts me enough with his name.
I cringed when someone knocked gently on the front door, making my eyes shoot to the boy who shot back into the kitchen. I cursed under my breath as I stood up making my movements slow. Opening the door to find Ben. "Some more clothes, books and other little things my kids chucked in for the little guy" Ben said softly handing me a duffle bag, I thanked him.
"I would let you in but he is currently huddled somewhere in the kitchen" I said with a yawn, Ben nodded wishing me luck as he left. I walked back the the living room, opening the duffle bag to see what was inside, I smiled softly at the Elephant teddy and a few comic books, along with a whole lot of clothes.
"Pup, That was Ben. he brought you over some more clothes and a few other little things" I said softly glancing at the kitchen hoping that he'll come out again. "No one is going to hurt you here, I promise" I said softly, smiling when I heard some shuffling and his small frame emerge from the behind the Kitchen island. "I'm really proud of you for being so brave. Do you think you could tell me your name?" I asked.
"Jack"
I almost missed the faint whisper and if it wasn't for my heightened hearing I wouldn't of heard it at all. "Jack" I breathed out a smile widening my lips. "Well Jack, its lovely to meet you" I said, my smile widening when I heard the crunch of an apple being bitten into and a small growl from Jack's stomach. I let him enjoy his apple and eat it in peace.
My eyes widened slightly as Jack crawled slowly over, his body shook as his heart raced. He sat in front of the couch, the blanket still wrapped around his shoulders. I smiled softly "You are really brave, thank you for trusting me. Would you like some water? more fruit?" I offered, studying him as he decided what to do, I could almost see the gears turning in his head.
"Why am I here?" Jack stuttered out, his voice not coming above a whisper, his eyebrows furrowing in confusion. His eyes quickly glancing up at me to gage my reaction before shakily lifting his hands towards the glass of water.
"You remind me of someone so I grabbed you before anyone else could." I explained, as he skulled the water as if his life depended on it. "Do you have a mum and dad Jack?" I asked softly, to which he nodded. "Can you tell me what their names are?"
Thankfully my patients with him worked, with a full belly and his guard lowered he tapped into the small reserve of trust that Jack had and shared it so generously with me
