Dillion Scott || Escape plan"Why am I here Caleb?" I asked, annoyed with his vague ramblings of the past few minutes, he hasn't really said anything of importance apart form that things changed, though he never mentioned exactly what had changed.
"You are here for your own good, but I know that you won't see it straight away, but you will." Caleb said simply. My eyebrows furrowed as my confusion only grew, I knew that if I didn't get a proper answer the after the first few questions, that I wouldn't be receiving one until Caleb is ready to tell me.
"Whatever you're doing, I hope its worth ruining our friendship and jeopardizing the relationship between our packs" I stated after a long silence. Cause there is no real outcome that would make Caleb be the good guy in this. The relationship between our packs will be strained for a period of time but I think it would recover as long as the Longmire's themselves weren't in on it, which I have a feeling there are not a part of this plot since it wouldn't benefit them in any way, they have fought beside us in to many battles to suddenly betray us.
Caleb on the other hand might have a bit more motive, what exactly I'm unsure. There has to be some form of personal gain from it, because he is risking a lot in doing this. Caleb has always been a respected member of his pack, he just didn't have an official title. Is this his way of getting herd or demanding some form of power or respect? Its an odd way of doing it and the worse way cause it would more likely get him killed. Banishment would be to risky cause Caleb knows to much important details about the Longmire's pack, if it were to get in the wrong hands, it could destroy the pack.
"Well that's where you're wrong. I'm not ruining anything. I'm helping. But like I said, you won't see it and I knew for a fact our families wouldn't see that I'm actually the good guy in this." Caleb stated, I'm seriously questioning his mental state, cause nothing about this situation could have him turn out as the good guy. Who is he trying to help? And what is he helping with? "I know you're confused and probably angry, but I promise it will turn out for the best, I'll explain everything soon and it will all make sense. Just trust me." Caleb said.
I wondered how exactly Caleb managed to set this all up, this couldn't of been a one man job to scout out the cave and then move a cage and other furniture into it. There had to be someone else in on this plot, I just don't know who or if Caleb is actually the mastermind behind it all. It could well be that Caleb is working for someone else, there is also the small thought running through my mind that Elias is somehow involved, not directly but it the timing of this seemed a little to convenient and apart from my own family, Caleb is the only one who would know about our bond.
The hours past by painstakingly slow, Caleb wasn't in the mood for giving any answers to what he was doing and why I am involved in this whole thing. The cage wasn't big so the most I could do was stand on my knees or lay down to properly stretch out. I got water plenty but food was more of a luxury with a sandwich a day.
Caleb would exit the cave regularly, leaving me alone for a few hours a day before coming back reeking of alcohol and a few other scents of other people I assume. Drinking was a habit that Caleb never had before or at least I wasn't aware of it. Most wolves don't get effected by Alcohol only when you drink an excessive amount would you start to feel tipsy which is where it starts to become poisonous for werewolves. So yes, werewolves do drink it for the social aspect of it but that's about it.
The cave must have a longish entrance as there wasn't any natural light coming from where trail that leads out the cave. There were lanterns that lit up the space I was in which would be around the same size of a small bedroom. There was a makeshift desk that was littered with papers and a few boxes that hold food and water. In the side the cage there was an old, dirty blanket with a few questionable stains on it, and a bucket for the toilet which stinks.
My ears perked at the sound of a gunshots, the sound ricocheting off the stone walls of the cave. it was silent for a few moments before Caleb came stumbling in, a gun in one hand and a half empty bottle of whiskey in the other. I sat up watching him closely. "You're an asshole." Caleb slurred, cursing loudly as he knocked his hip in the corner of the table, his pain quickly turned into frustration and anger as he gripped the edge and pulling the table towards him before flipping it on its side. The cave darkened as most of the lanterns had smashed, only the one that sat on top of my cage lighting the cave.
"He doesn't care about you, hell I'm probably doing him a favor" Caleb spat out, taking a swig of whiskey. Picking up the fallen chair roughly and sitting on it. confusion and worry started to tighten the knots in my stomach as he rambled. "Destiny, faith, mates. All that is bullshit, there are ways of getting around it and you can choose who you love. Hell, you don't even have to stick with one lover, have as many as you want. You can be free." Caleb said waving his arms about as he rambled on.
Yes there were ways around it, there have been many theories over the years on how you can bypass the whole soulmate situation but most if not all of them aren't pain free and the risk of death far out numbers the positives. Your mate is a gift and it should be treasured, it should bring you comfort that there is someone out there that is made for you, that they are your perfect match.
"What are you saying Caleb? Why am I here?" I asked, believing in these theories is one thing acting on them is another. Caleb has a mate Chelsea and they have been together for years and from what I had thought, they were happy together. So this whole 'mates are bullshit' is something that has come about in the past few weeks or months and it would have to be an outsider that has influenced Caleb, cause I know for a fact its against pack law in most packs including the Longmire's.
"I love you god dammit!" Caleb stated loudly, sculling the rest of the whiskey and throwing the bottle at the wall of the cave, the glass shattered making me cringe at the sound. "I love you" he said in a more somber tone.
"Do you always kidnap and keep the people you love in cages?" I retorted sarcasm coating my words lightly. Caleb scoffed starring blankly ahead, "There are many ways you could of gone about this and you chose arguably the worst way possible. You never mentioned anything to me the whole time we have known each other, not to mention you have a mate." I stated, not believing for a second that he has genuine love for me. "Why am I here Caleb? Don't bullshit me" I asked annoyance once again creeping up.
Caleb growled lowly, raising the gun that I had temporarily forgotten about aiming it at me, though his arm was quite shaky due the excessive amounts of alcohol that I assume he has drunken today. "Come on Caleb, all the years of friendship has come down to what? you shooting me in a cage?" I said. If I can get out the cage then I have half a chance of getting out of here. Caleb is intoxicated which means this would be one of the few times that I would be able to beat him in a fight with relative ease. The gun is a slight problem but that is a risk I gotta take if I can get out of the cage.
To my slight surprise it worked Caleb unlocked the cage and let me out with the barrel of the gun pushed against my skull. His eyes were worryingly vacant, there was no emotion to what he was doing or who he had a gun pressed against. I don't know what happened to him or who made him into what ever he is today but this isn't the Caleb I know, there wasn't even a flicker of who he once was. "Who are you? Cause right now I just see an empty shell of a man I use to know" I said disappointedly.
Grabbing his wrist and pushing it away quickly so I didn't have a gun pointed at my head, he growled pushing me back, I stumbled into the silver bars of the cage making me hiss as it burned my skin. we stumbled around for a bit as we both tried to get the upper hand, I kept my grip on his wrist making sure that the gun was kept pointed away from me. Though he still had his strength, he was slow and uncoordinated which made it some what easy to overpower him, i managed to turn us around and swipe his feet from under him so I could push him into the cage he knocked his head on the floor harshly, which gave me enough time to kick his feet in and lock the cage and take the key from the door.
I made quick work on locking the cage and throwing away from arms reach of the cage. I heard a gunshot before a searing hot pain shot through my shoulder, I yelled out in agony as the phase was rejected and I returned to my human form. Which hurts like hell, another gunshot sounded as a bullet hit my leg. Phasing into my wolf is incredibly risky now but it was the only chance I had so I did and ran.
