Day One-Hundred and Forty-One | Thursday | July 28th | My Birthday
It would be a lie if I told you things weren't awkward between Virgil and Roman. It would also be a lie if I told you that they got together the same day that they kissed. They hadn't really talked about it much yet, neither knew how. So, for now, they hadn't approached the matter. Logan and Patton hadn't said much about it to them either, so that was nice. The two were going on another date this afternoon.
Logan didn't know what Patton had planned, he had promised he wouldn't ask and he had promised that he wouldn't look to see what he had put in the backpacks they were bringing along. But now, as the sun just began to finish its descent behind the mountains, it was time to go. Logan watched with mild amusement as Patton jumped up and down in excitement as he double and triple checked the bags, "Patton, I can assure you that I will love what you have planned, there is no need to worry." Logan said when Patton nearly tripped over the chair leg as he ran to grab something from his room.
"I know, I just want it to be perfect," Patton said, "Now you stay here, I'll be right back and then we can leave" he took one of the backpacks with him as he ran into his room. A moment later he returned and handed one of the bags to Logan.
"Alright Patton, where are you taking me," Logan asked as he stepped towards the front door.
Patton pulled him back, a smile on his face as a portal appeared in the living room. "We can't take the car, it's too far," he said. Logan raised an eyebrow in confusion. Patton could only make portals to places he's been before, which was a lot of places. It didn't leave much room for Logan to work with, but he didn't question Patton. They gave quick goodbyes to Roman an Virgil before turning to the portal Patton had created, "Wait!" Patton said, Logan turned to him, an eyebrow raised slightly, "Close your eyes please?"
Logan did as he was told, even placing his hands over his glasses, Patton led him through the portal, gently ordering him to keep his eyes closed and stay in place before he rushed off. He stood there for two minutes, occasionally Patton would make a sound and it would remind Logan he was still there but otherwise it was really quiet, "And open!" Patton said
Logan opened his eyes, taking in the scene in front of him. They were in the center of a large clearing of trees, the forest, he quickly concluded. Patton had laid a blanket on the ground, two more had been neatly folded and set to the side, a lantern was lit and placed next to them. One backpack had food spilling out of it, sandwiches, cookies, fruit snacks (One of Logan's favorite snacks, only second to Crofters with, well, anything), apple juice, and water. Logan almost laughed at the meal, it seemed like something that might be set up for children, it was so simple yet Logan couldn't recall having a meal like that since he was in second grade.
There was one other thing on the blanket, a map. Not a regular map though, this one was of the stars. It was only then that Logan thought to look up, and that's when his mouth was opened in surprise. There were stars! You could see them all, clear as day! They were so bright, a red dot hung in the air and it took no time at all for Logan to know that the dot was mars. The moon was full and sat above them like a glowing disco ball. "Patton this is..." his voice trailed off. You couldn't see the stars in the city, not very well at least. But here, wherever here was, nothing blocked them. No city lights made them seem dim and dull, no smog or smoke made them seem tainted or dirty. No building blocked his view of them. They were there, perfect and wonderful and beautiful and-
"Do you like it?" Patton asked him, catching Logan's attention once again.
"It's amazing" Logan said, "How did you-"
"The other day the radio said there was gonna be a meteor shower today, and you said that you wished you could see it" Patton explained, he smiled brightly at Logan, taking a step forward.
