Chapter 84

This chapter and the next one are just going to be about what goes on after they get out. It'll stop probably somewhere around Christmas. 

One Day After Escape | Friday | August 26th 

The first thing he noticed was the smell. It smelled of latex gloves, lemon-scented cleaning supplies, and bleach. The second thing he noticed was the slightly distant intercom calling a Doctor Brown to the O.R and the buzz of hospital traffic just a few feet away from wherever he was. Virgil slowly peeled his eyes open, not at all surprised to see the rectangular LED lights they have in schools and hospital rooms like the one he was in. The walls around him were a soft blue color, the curtains that showed the rest of the hospital outside his room were dark blue and pulled open, letting in slow streams of light into the room. The door was open which explained why he could hear the sounds of nurses talking and the intercom calling doctors and such. Virgil hated hospitals, they were just associated with too many painful memories. 

The sound of quiet tapping made him turn his head, groaning slightly at the movement. Someone was sitting in a chair pushed against the wall, a laptop pulled into their lap as they fiercly tapped at the keys. A pair of glasses sat on the bridge of their nose and reflected the light of the computer screen. They looked up at him at the sound of discomfort before giving a small smile to him, "Hey, you're awake" Angel said as he closed the laptop and moved it aside. He got off the chair and moved towards the hospital bed, removing his glasses as he did. 

Was it weird that one of the first thoughts in his head was that if Angel looked good with glasses than Roman must look ten times better with them or was he just being gay?

"W-wheres Ro-Roman and P-Pat and L-L-Logan? Are they safe?" He asked Angel as he got closer to the bed.

Angel nodded, "They're all in other rooms. Roman's been pumped full of drugs, he's sleeping right now so you can't see him. Logan and Patton are with their families and-" Virgil shot up in the bed, instantly regretting it as pain shot up his body and up to his head, "Whoah, slow your roll there Lightning McQueen" Angel said as he gently pushed him back down on the bed

'Jesus Christ he really is Roman's brother'  Virgil thought as he sat up again, "Pat-Patton's parent's hur-hurt him. You c-can't l-let them near him"

Angel laughed loudly, "Like my mom or Lydia would ever let those two near Patton. Sorry, should've been more clear. Pat's with his brother Harry, depending on his recovery his sister might fly out too but she's at school right now so it's difficult. Rowen's with him too- did Roman tell you about Rowen?" Virgil nodded and Angel continued, "Yeah, well he's safe. They all are, but the fact they were all the first people you thought of says a lot about you. Didn't even ask about yourself"

"Will I live?" Virgil asked

Angel's face twisted into light confusion as he nodded, "Uh, yeah you should"

"Than I d-don't care. Are P-Pat and Lo-gan awake?"

Angel nodded, "Yeah, Pat has a concussion so it isn't safe for him to sleep and Logan hasn't given the doctors consent to give him something for him to sleep so he isn't doing that."

"Can I see them?"

"It's like four A.M right now so I'm gonna say no," Angel replied.

"Wh-why are you st-staying with me and not-not with Roman?"
