As the final bell rang, Declan couldn't help the sigh of relief that escaped his lips. It had been an extremely long day as he had predicted. He still hadn't gotten to take his nap at lunch due to having to help out in the cafeteria at the last minute.

Making sure his class was empty, he set off to find Alyssa. Checking her classroom, he found it empty. Deciding to check the office, he found Janice locking up foe the night.

"Janice! Have you seen Alyssa? I'm trying to find her and apologize, but I'm not going to be able to make our plans tonight," he hurriedly explained.

"Sorry, Hun, but she already left. Something about needing a nap."

Declan chuckled to himself. Guess he wasn't the only one tired after their chat last night. "That's too bad. I don't have her number. Could you please pass along my regrets for me? Oh, and tell her I'll make it up to her!"

Finally arriving back to his house, if you could call it that, Declan slowly crept up the stairs to his bedroom on the third floor. Before he could make it all the way, however, he was approached by his best friend, and life long partner in crime.

"Declan, before you crash out, i need to discuss the perimeter runs with you. Er discovered some unusual activity along the western borders."

Connor Bailey stood reading a file as he awaited Declan's instructions. At six-two, he was impressive and efficient looking. Sandy blond hair in need of a trim and soft baby blue eyes in a slightly cherubic face gave him a boyish charm.

"Increase the patrol times and add more people to the sweeps. Gather as much information as you can. Maybe we'll be able to catch whoever is breaching our lines. Let me know if anything else comes up. Also set up a meeting with the whole company for tonight. We haven't had one in a while and i think its about time everyone sees their leader is around and we need to keep everyone informed. Make a list of all the indiscretions and what not, and we'll deal with those at that time also. Now, if you'll excuse me Conner, i really need to get some rest before this evening."

Slipping into his room, Declan quickly made it to his bed and undressed before climbing under the sheets. Almost instantly he was asleep and dreaming of his beautiful soul mate.

Alyssa lay quietly in her bed straining her ears, listening. She had been sleeping peacefully for about an hour before she was awakened by an odd sound. About to rule it out as her imagination, she heard it again. It was coming from the living room. Climbing out of bed, she was torn between confronting the noises- and their source- head on, or calling the police. Hearing the racket yet again, she decided to do both. Grabbing her cell phone, she immediately placed her call.

"911. What's your emergency?" the disembodied female voiced.

"I think someones in my apartment. I live in the Greenwood Apartments, unit 23. Can you please send someone out? And please hurry!" she said. She now believed she heard dishes being flung around her kitchen.

"Ma'am, someone is on their way now. Are you in a safe place?" the 911 operator asked.

"Yea. I'm good. Please hurry."

"They are still 5 minutes out, ma'am. Do you want me to stay on the line with you until they arrive?"

"No, I'll be fine. Thank you," she assured the woman on the other end of the line and disconnected the call.

It had gotten quiet while she was talking to the operator, causing her to believe the intruder had left. Creeping around the corner, she went to investigate the damage done.

Before she could make it to the kitchen though, someone grabbed her from behind as she passed the bathroom.

"Aaaaaa!" A scream escaped Alyssa's mouth before it was abruptly cut off when someone placed their hand over her mouth. She couldn't see the person's face, but she could tell they were tall, bulky, and had an unpleasant smell about them. And they were vaguely familiar. Oh, Gods, did she know them?

"Shut up, bitch!" a deep masculine voice growled in her ear. "You thought you could stay hidden from me? I told you, you're mine. And I'm not giving you up!"

Alyssa felt her heart drop to her stomach at the man's words. Oh, crap. She did know this man. Very well, in fact. It was her ex- Kevin.

Knocking at the door woke Declan from his restless sleep. The images he'd seen had terrified him. Before who ever had knocked could do so again, he was up and across the room, nearly tearing the door off the hinges in his haste to open it.

"Conner! Go Over to the Greenwood Apartments immediately. Unit 23. If it looks undisturbed, leave. If it looks like some intruder had been there, call me!" he quickly ordered his most trusted of those around him.

Slamming the door closed again without waiting for his friend to comply, he quickly made it back to his bed side table and grabbed his phone. He didn't have Alyssa's phone number, but he did have Janice's. Dialing, he waited until he heard her answer.

"Janice, it's Declan."

"Well hello there handsome. What can i do ya for?" she fortuitously answered, causing Declan to roll his eyes. She never seemed to be serious.

"Who is Kevin?" He prayed she wouldn't know the name, that it had in fact, been a dream, but the knot of dread deep in his belly made him doubt that.

"H-how do you know that name?" Janice stuttered, sounding as though ice water had just run through her veins.

Crap. She had just confirmed his worst fears. It wasn't a dream, and Alyssa was in trouble.

Double crap.
