The wind blew gently, stirring the leaves lightly in the trees above her. If she looked carefully, Alyssa could make out clouds gently wafting in front of the three-quarter moon above the canopy as she made her way deeper into the thicket. Wearing nothing but her white linen nightgown, she expected to feel cold. However, she inexplicably felt warm and comfortable, even with twigs poking into her bare feet.

How odd... She thought to herself.

Looking ahead of her, she noticed the trees starting to thin out, as if she was coming upon a clearing. Leaving the woods behind, she stepped forward and noticed a dim, flickering light about halfway across the field, beckoning her. As she neared it, she realized it was a lit candle.

Who would leave a candle lit all the way out here? She wondered. Looking around she felt like there was someone watching her.

"Hello?" she spoke, hoping it was just her imagination.

When no one answered, she decided she should make it back home. She didn't really understand how she came to be standing in the middle of a clearing, in the middle of the night, alone, to begin with. As she bent over to blow out the candle- no use leaving it and possibly starting a forest fire- she heard a slight rustling in the trees off to her right, causing her to freeze and look in that direction, squinting to make out shadows.

Surprise caused her eyes to widen as she gasped, recognizing the figure coming through an opening she hadn't noticed.

"Declan?"

"Hello Alyssa," he practically purred her name, causing her to feel slightly weak in the knees.

"What are you doing here? Hell, what am I doing here?" she asked him, confused.

"You are here because I called you. I am here because you called to me."

"What? That makes absolutely no sense. How did i call you? I don't even have your number, and I know I never gave you mine!" she exclaimed and took a step back as he stepped closer.

Declan gave a weary sigh as he realized he didn't explain anything clearly. "I'm sorry, that didn't come out quite right. We're kinda in a dream state right now. And our souls called out to each other, causing us to both be here together. Does that make anymore sense?"

"You mean we're astral projecting ourselves here? Huh. Ok, yea, that makes a little sense as to how come I don't remember getting here. But why would our souls call each other? We only met this morning."

Declan looked at Alyssa with a shocked expression on his face. "How do you know about astral projection?"

"Oh,um, yea. I'm, uh, kinda, um... I'm a witch," she mumbled quietly under her breath.

Looking at her in stunned silence, Declan let her statement sink in. If she'd have said that to anyone else, they wouldn't have believed her. But Declan knew things others didn't. Not only are witches real, but so were ghosts, vampires, and werewolves.

"That would explain the dreams then," he said quietly, talking to himself.

"How did you know about the dreams?!" Alyssa asked in trepidation. She'd only spoken about those to Janice! If she found out her best friend was telling all her secrets to practically a stranger, Janice was in deep trouble.

Declan snapped his head up in shock. "You've had dreams too? How long?"

Feeling her cheeks flame, Alyssa glanced down. Thank gods he hadn't know about them. That means her friend didn't rat her out!

"Uh, three nights?" It came out as a question instead of a statement. "Why? How long have you had them?"

"More then three nights," Declan chuckled.
