Meghan's POV:

"BWAAAHHHH!!!!!"

Holy fuck!

Suddenly one Emily Sonnett launches herself out from beside the bed where I couldn't see her.

It's like everything's in slow motion. I can feel myself losing control over my body. I can see a laugh coming across her face. A silly glint in her eye. But still my body reacts as it has so many times before. Fuck! No! Not a panic attack. Shit! The combination of past traumas, PTSD, and panic invades my mind.

As if on its own volition suddenly my fist makes full contact with the side of her face. I can see the look on her face change to horror as I quickly take a step back. My heart is racing. At this point I don't even think I am breathing. Her face changes again as she recognizes the panic in my eyes but it's too late. I take off. I sprint out of the room not even sure where I am anymore.

Memories come flooding back at a pace that I can't handle. The car crash. Waking up alone in the hospital. The poor excuse of a foster dad who was too drunk to notice he was hitting me. The girl I was once in love with is now kicking my exposed ribs. I can't breathe. I can't breathe. FUCK!

Emily's POV:

I am currently crouched on the far side of my bed preparing to jump out and scare the rookie. What better way to introduce her to Saucy Sonnett than a little prank. I hear the lock on the door click and her soft footsteps enter. I try to stifle a laugh as she moves closer to me. Then...

"BWAAAHHHH!!!!!" I jump out laughing and scream at her. I can see something in her eyes change and I realize I've done something wrong. Suddenly her fist connects with my face and before I can recover enough to even look up she is gone. I start to go after her but by the time I make it to the hall, I can't see her.

I step back into our room to examine my now throbbing face. I can see a nice red mark already forming in my lower eye and jaw area. Wow. I just screwed that up. I don't know what to do. I could see pure panic and fear in her eyes right when I jumped out. I need to go find her and apologize. I really fucked up this time. I'm so stupid. What was I thinking? I need to go find her and apologize but then I realize she is definitely not going to want to talk to me. I move back towards my bedside table and grab my phone calling my more senior and mostly more responsible friend on the team.

After a few rings she picks up. " Hey Son, are you really too lazy to walk like four feet down the hallway?" The person on the other end says laughing.

"Kelley I really fucked up this time."

"What are you talking about? What did you do?"

"Scared the rookie and it went really wrong."

"Sonnet" she says in exasperation.

"Kel can you just come here please."

"Ya I'm coming"

Not even a minute later the door swings open and a slightly irritated Kelley enters.

"What did you do this time Sonny. Why is your face all red and starting to bruise?"

"Kel I really fucked up big time. Jill is gonna kick me off the team. Oh my god. I'm so stupid." I spit out in quick succession.

"Ok hey calm down. Just sit down and tell me what happened." Kelley can see that Emily is on the verge of tears at this point. This concerns her as her friend is normally upbeat and all smiles.

I sit next to Kelley on the bed and recount what just happened. "I thought it would be funny to scare her when she came in so I hid behind the bed. I jumped out when she came in but Kel I really scared her. Like I could see real fear and panic in her eyes as it happened. Then she punched me in the face which I totally deserve and she took off. I don't know where she went, but Kel, she didn't seem right. She was breathing really quickly. I think she was having a panic attack. Oh my god. I'm such an idiot. Fuck."

After finishing my rant I look up and see Kelley just sitting there contemplating what to say.

"Ya you are kind of an idiot but Son you were just trying to be funny. As stupid as it was you had no way of knowing that it would upset her. Do you know where she went?"

"No, she just took off."

"Ok let's go tell Jill and figure this mess out. She probably just went outside to get some fresh air or something."

"Ya, thanks Kel. You are always cleaning up my messes."

"Ya, well that's what friends are for. Ya?"
