Thank you, Kelley

Chapter 27

Emily's POV:

Bzzt. Bzzt. Bzzt

I wake up to my phone buzzing. I sit up and reach over to answer it. I see that it's Kelly calling. That can't be good. She wouldn't call unless something happened.

"Hey?" I try to be quiet so as to not wake up Ali and Ash who are asleep in the bed next to mine. We decided it would just be easier if we got one room with two beds.

"Sonny! You guys need to get here right now!" she practically shouts through the phone.

"What happened. Oh my god is she ok?" I can't keep my fear out of my voice. I hear the girls stir next to me.

"Em, what's going on?" I can hear Ali whisper. I just shrug at her waiting for Kelley's response.

"No! She's ok! She woke up. I don't know. She's ok though!"

"Oh my god. Seriously?"

"Yes Em."

"Oh my god. She's awake." I say so that the other two know what's happening.

"She what?" I switch it to speakerphone so we can all hear Kelley.

"She's awake. The doctor said they still need to do a few tests in the morning to make sure her brain is all good but he thinks it should be fine. She's ok!"

"Oh my god, we are on the way!" Ash jumps out of the bed and starts frantically looking for a sweatshirt.

"Ya! Ok. She is still really tired just so you guys know. She just fell back to sleep a minute ago but she's ok."

"Oh my god. Thank god." is all I can manage. Tears of joy begin to fall. I can't believe that she woke up. I had begun to lose hope.

"Ok bye, Kel. We will see you in a little bit."

"Ya ok. See you soon." With that, I hang up and just stare at Ali and Ash. We are all so surprised but relieved.

"Come here you two. Group hug." Ash giggles out. We oblige and join her. At this point, we are all crying tears of joy and relief.

Soon we pull away and all grab a few things before leaving to drive to the hospital. The ride is quite as Ali drives. We are all caught up in our own thoughts.

I can't wait to talk to her. I have missed her so much these last few days. The thought of losing her overwhelmed me. But now it's going to be ok.

We enter her hospital room to find Kelley lying next to Meghan who is asleep.

"Hey, guys," Kelley says with a smile. It's the first one I have seen from her in a while.

"Hi," I say. I'm sad she's not awake now but I can't wait until she is.

"So she's ok?" This is Ash. We all move into the room and I take the small reclining chair while Ash and Ali take the couch.

"Ya... they have to run a few tests but she is ok." We talk for a few minutes but since it is still the middle of the night we all end up falling asleep knowing Meghan needs the rest too.

Meghan's POV:

I wake up and find several people in the room. It takes me a second to remember what's going on but based on the sun shining in through the window it is actually morning now. Kelley is still asleep in the bed cuddled into me. I can see Emily curled up in the chair. Man am I glad to see her. On the other side, Ali is snuggled into Ash's side. Wait why are they here? Actually, why is Emily here? Shouldn't she be in Portland?

Apparently Kelley can sense my confusion and uneasiness even in her sleep because her eyes flutter open.

"Hey. you're awake," she says in a low tone. "How are you feeling?"

Hmm, I hadn't really thought about how I was feeling physically. Maybe it's because I am mentally so confused. I really can't remember what happened and how I made it here.

"Good morning... And umm... I'm fine. A headache but not too bad."

"I'm really glad you woke up," she says I can hear the sadness in her voice.

"Kelley" I look her right in the eye. "What happened to me?" Now the sadness is not only in her voice but all across her face. I can tell she doesn't know how to tell me.

"Oh my god. Meghan! You're awake. Hi." Emily interrupts Kelley and I's conversation. Uhh, I'll just ask her again later. "I was so worried about you."

"Hi Em," I say. There are tears falling from her eyes but I can tell they are happy tears. She leans over and pulls me into a hug.

"Here, Em trade places," Kelley says as she climbs out of my bed. Emily grateful climbs into the now empty spot.

At the movement in the room, Ali and Ash wake up too.

"HEY! Oh, I'm so glad you're awake." Ash practically launches herself onto me.

"Ash careful." I can hear Ali scold her. Eventually, she pulls away and Ali pulls me into a quick hug too. "We're so glad you're ok." she softly says.

"I'm glad you guys are here," I say trying to show my thankfulness but I'm still hella confused. Sonnetts hands are now placed in mine and I squeeze them as I say the next part.

"So is anyone going to tell me what the hell happened to me?" I look at all the girls and their faces turn sad. What is going on? Kelley is the first one to speak.

"Meghan, what do you remember." I rack my brain trying to figure it out.

"Umm... I had a soccer game. It took us a long time to get home but then I drove home. I don't remember anything after that." I have a feeling I know what happened but I'm hoping it's not true.

"Ok umm..."

"Just say it Kel. He beat the shit out of me, didn't he? Then they called you because you're my emergency contact." I still can't remember it happening but I can connect the dots.

"Yes," she says with sadness. "But you're safe now. Ok. He can't hurt you anymore. They arrested him." She squeezed my free hand as Emily did the same with the other.

"Ok," I say emotionless. I couldn't care about him anymore. I'm done.

"So why were you guys keep saying 'it's good to see you awake'? What did he do to me."

"Meghan you were in a coma," Kelley says and I can see residual fear in her eyes.

"Oh shit," I say honestly surprised. That at least makes them laugh. "How long was I out?"

"A week and a half." This time it's Emily and I can see that this whole thing has really freaked her out.

"Oh... I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you guys' ' I feel bad that I have caused all the tears and bags under their eyes.

"Kid." Ash states. "This isn't your fault." she chuckles. "It's not like you had any control over it. We're just glad you're ok."

I smile at everyone. "Thank you guys for caring and coming."

"There's nowhere else we would be." Kelley smiles at me.

I still have a lot of questions but I'm too tired to care about them right now. I don't understand how I can be so tired even though from what they were saying I have been asleep for a week and a half.

"I'm tired," I say grumpily.

"Why don't you rest ok? We will all be here when you wake up," Emily whispers into my ear.

"Mkay," I say before closing my eyes and snuggling into her.
