Hikari

Long ago, before 80% of the population had quirks, everyone was normal. There wasn't a competition between being the best hero, or being the person with the best quirk, or getting enrolled in the best super hero school in the world.

I mean, quirks are amazing. Depending on what quirk you have, you could save millions of lives. But some people put their quirks to bad use. Those people are called super villains.

My name is Hikari Kazenikura (pronounced Hi-car-ee Ka-zen-uh-core-uh). By the time I was only fifteen, I was walking into the greatest super hero school of all time: U.A. High School.

I didn't really want to go to this school. It was my father who forced me to go, because he recommended me. I guess that it was alright, but I really didn't feel comfortable competing against others just to prove that I was stronger.

It was simple getting in. I walked up, told them I was recommended, went through a few tests, and got in.

But somehow, even though I never mentioned it, even though I never even used my mom's quirk, the teachers knew about it. Maybe they asked the parents to tell them what quirks we had, who knows. But that fact kinda scared me.

I silently stepped into room 1-A and looked around. The room was chaos. People talking, other people shouting and fighting. I found an empty desk, set my things down, and sat down. Lots of people here...

Is that Bakugo? I thought, looking at the ash-blond haired boy shouting at another boy next to him. I remember bumping into him on my way into the school. His quirk was similar to my father's, but more... explosive. Like his personality.

My eyes drifted around the room. So many people... and they all seemed to have amazing quirks. All my life I've been kind of on the more quiet end, but now I was incredibly scared to say anything to anyone. I knew no one in this class.

Suddenly someone walked into the class. It was a man with scruffy facial hair and a black costume. I assumed it was the teacher, so I stayed quiet and paid attention to him. Once everyone was silent, he sighed and shook his head.

"That took too long for you to be quiet. Whatever, just shut up and stay quiet. There's time to make new friends later. Right now we're going to go over everyone's quirks and names. Let's see here..."

He looked down at a list in his hands. "Yuga Aoyama, Navel Laser. Mina Ashido, Acid. Tsuyu Asui..." He squinted, then he looked up and said uncertainly, "Frog?"

He shrugged and kept reading from the list. There were 20 of us in total.

"...Shoto Todoroki, Half-Cold Half-Hot, Hikari Kazenikura, Half-Flame Half-Shield?"

He looked up again at me. I froze. How did he know about my mother's Shield quirk? He stared at me, then his gaze moved to who I assumed was Todoroki.

He muttered a faint swear and said, "Never had two kids in the same class who inherited both their parent's quirks. Amazing."

He kept reading. "Katsuki Bakugo, Explosion, Izuku Midoriya... Unknown?"

His gaze lifted and glared at a boy in front of me. His face turned bright red.

Then he sighed and shook his head again. "Whatever. Today we'll be doing something called a Fitness Exam. Instead of doing an orientation like the other classes, I have been given the opportunity to run this class however I see fit. There are 8 physical tests I have created to test the power of your quirks. The lucky person who gets in last place is sent home, because they have the least potential and don't belong here. Is that clear?"
