Nova, surprisingly, got more sleep at Elm Tree House than she did at Burnywood, or when she lived with her father. Although, you wouldn't be able to tell by the level of noise the residents of the Dumping Ground were currently making. The sun had only just risen halfway into the sky before Tee and Carmen had their first quarrel over who could use the computer first. Then Johnny got involved and took his little sister's side which ended in the three of them yelling at the top of their lungs at eight in the morning, before half the older residents had even rolled out of bed.

The screaming had awoken Nova, being the light sleeper she is, who rolled over with a groan and closed her eyes again. Nova pulled the covers high over her head to shield herself from the morning chill that lingered in the air. She sat up, pulling the banket tight around her, and checked the time: 08:23, perfect. Nova smiled softly at not being woken up for breakfast, a small victory, and reluctantly got out of bed. She hauled an oversized jumper over her head, kept her checkered pyjama bottoms on and then moved onto taming her ginger curls and applying some subtle makeup, having decided she wasn't going to venture outside her room today.

The view from her window showed a foggy autumn morning, the perfect weather for reading books and doodling in Nova's sketchpad. So, that's exactly what the girl did. She heaved herself up into the windowsill and opened the fantasy book she had taken from the lounge the day before. Chapter one....

Nova managed to get a good chunk into her novel before Tracy knocked on her door calling a house meeting. The girl put her book down on the window-ledge and jumped out of the bay window. She then opened her wardrobe and pulled out some jeans and a clean t-shirt, before laying them out onto her bed, conscious Tracy was watching her.
"Are you going to watch me get changed or...?" Nova asked, not understanding why Tracy was still stood in the doorway. Her morning voice, as she had not yet spoken a word besides that question, was rough and conveyed how the girl herself felt. She figured her body wasn't used to daily cups of coffee after not being allowed any whilst at Burnywood (she still went to cafés for coffee whenever she had enough money though) and that was why she felt so rough; she hadn't had her usual mug of sustenance yet.

"Oh, sorry. I just er, I just wanted to say I was sorry for yesterday you know? I didn't mean to pry or anything, I just want you to feel at home here, like I did when I was in your position." Tracy explained, a guilty expression on her face.
"It's okay. I'm sorry for being so defensive too. I just..." Nova sighed and looked down at the carpet. "I'm just glad to be rid of Burnywood. I didn't have a great time there and I don't want people knowing why unless they really have to, I guess." she explained.
"I get it, really I do." Tracy smiled sympathetically, "I used to tell everyone my mum was famous because I didn't want them knowing why I was in care." she laughed.
"Really?"
"Yeah."
"And people believed you?" Nova smiled back.
"Well... not really, But it made me feel better." Tracy shrugged.  "Anyways, I'll leave you to get dressed."
